When I was in the Army, I would go and grab a slice of pizza and play some Metal Slug in the evenings. I put the difficulty up to Level-6 and got waxed quick. Metal Slug is one of my favorites.

You should consider playing those games on a CRT screen or get a retroTINK, that way you can get the true original feeling playing with the lowest latency possible. Awesome content by the way!

I am also starting a Neo Geo journey. I remember them when I was at school + the one rich kid who owned one. I have bought a broken Neo Geo CD that was a bargain and luckily easy to fix. I’m not rich enough for an AES but it’s a start.

I grabbed the 161-in-1 cart to get the majority of the neo geo library cheap on 1 cart. They make versions for the AES as well as MVS... Not as fun or as much of an investment as tracking down the original carts but its cheap and would tide you over until you find the carts your looking for. The other game they had in your vid, waku waku 7 is a funny and strange japanese style fighter that is very popular like metal slug. Cant tell what display your using but if its a modern lcd tv you should look into a cheap scaler like a retrotink 2x pro or a crt tv to cut down lag, the game will feel much more snappy and youll die (cuss) less with either of those options lol. Excellent video QueenG! I would have loved to see a Tmnt game on the Neo Geo. It would have been interesting to see how the game would have looked but I know it would have played well for certain. One tip as a Neo Geo collector that can help you also distinguish authentic from repros and conversions is the smell of the cart and even when you open the box. I know that sounds odd but the true games have a unique smell. I call it the Neo Geo smell and you definitely will know it when you smell it.

Excellent video QueenG! There are so many games to choose from! With the more expensive ones, You can concentrate one game at a time. While the more affordable ones You can get possibly 2 at a time. This time next year Queen You will have a few dozen Neo Geo games and Your collection will only grow from there. I applaud You for choosing this route! I would love to own OG NEO games and hardware. But the price range is just way too high. So I just bought the games on my switch and have most of the ones I wanted like all the metal slug games and KOF and the AMAZING neo turf masters. best golf game ever made.....no joke. At 7.99 and sometimes they go on sale it's really a good way for people on a budget to get to play these great classic games.

Og metal slug for aes was selling for 4 to 5k back in 2004. Nothing against conversions but I would much rather have an original mvs cart (which sells for less than $100) or the neo geo cd metal slug (which might be going for about $400 now I think). You said you remember playing this game on the arcade why not buy the mvs version and get an mvs system or if you don't have the room for an arcade you could go the route of a consolized mvs system, or a neo geo cd; games are still cheaper than their aes counterpart. I am going for a full North American Nintendo DS set I can help with your Nintendo ds questions in terms of rare games or variants and maybe some hidden gems and stuff like that.

Yeah you got to make sure cuz Neo Geo is very expensive one game is like thousands of dollars which is crazy cuz I collect them I used to have about 60 of them and they're a very hard to collect right now expensive the most expensive out of everything depends on the title some are cheap you got to know which ones are the authentic and which ones are conversions and it's crazy cuz some conversions are still expensive too and then you have second party Neo Geo games that are made from other companies that are real they just from third parties🕹🎮😀👍🏾

I own an original Japan Metal Slug home cart i've owned since the 90s, and have seen heaps of conversions. Provided the conversion is done correctly it really doesn't matter a damn. Anyone telling you different is simply full of shit. Without opening the cart there is almost no way you could ever tell just by playing it, there is zero difference. If the cart has windowed EPROMs in it then it is NOT a conversion, it is a bootleg. That still does not matter at all, if done right, it STILL PLAYS EXACTLY THE SAME. It will not hurt anything at all. Anyone telling you it will is also full of shit. Zero difference in how it plays or functions, ROMs are ROMs, if they are written to the correct chip in the correct way and installed in a suitable board that has the jumpers set correctly, again, it simply is not possible to tell it isn't original from playing it. Metal Slug never had a Dog Tag insert. If you see one that does it isn't original. What you see there on the spine of that insert is pretty much as per original US/Euro release. Every NEO-GEO home console will play any home cart, there is no region lock. That console at the 8:30 mark is a Japan BIOS, or it is set to Japan in the UniBIOS. The NEO-GEO didn't even go close to meeting 'doom' in mid 90s, it went quite strong way up into the 2000s. Last game released was in 2004. It lived a very long and extremely successful life. The home console was not created to sell more than the competition, it was there to allow those that wanted the real arcade at home experience to have it regardless of cost, and it did that very well. The MVS was incredibly successful, and that was all SNK really cared about. Far too much lore and misinformation around the NEO-GEO, especially around the home console and the bullshit about low serial consoles having better image quality and later being junk and having issues with running high meg count games etc... If anything it is the other way around, although serial number has absolutely nothing to do with it, and even the 3-6 revision still came in a 5 volt version (the 5 volt consoles were the ones that sometimes have issues with larger game carts and it is the voltage drop from the 5v power supply being external to the console, internally regulated 9-12v consoles never did have an issue) I still have the console i got in the very early 90s, and it still works just fine.
