I was born 87, and damn i dont remember anyone having a Game Gear or a Lynx, them things must been so rare. I did have a Genesis tho back in the day, used to play Toejam & Earl with my mom all the time.

I got my game gear when I was in the 4th grade in 94. My mom bought mine for making honor roll. It was the blue one. I remember all of the batteries it used up.

None of us can see the future unfortunately. My favorite games for SNES is Donkey Kong&Donkey Kong Diddy's quest,Super Mario bro.&Super Mario world. Street fighter and Mortal Kombat games.

Screen looks amazing! I'd highly recommend scooping up some 1.5 lithium rechargeables. Specifcially 1.5v batteries.

The Game Gear was ahead of its time for sure. Despite the battery life and the ghosting blur effect of the original screen. I feel like the true successor to the game gear was the original PSP lol also The Sega Nomad was just a handheld Genesis which was also cool at that time. The IPS screen definitely brings new life to the Game Gear.

If you from the Sac area, you need to hit The Cave. They have one in Arden and Folsom. But the best and biggest one is in Roseville. Loving your videos BTW!

When I heard your origin story about the Game Gear, it was very similar to mine. I believe I got my Game Gear on I think my 10th or 11th birthday from my dad. I had Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusions, G-Loc, and Columns (Sega's version of Tetris). It didn't last long, and I can't remember what broke it, but I think after a year or so it was broken. I am still on the hunt for one and I know its the hardest hand held to find. I've seen a lot of the mods to upgrade the display and battery for it which I'd also like to get. So far I have my Sega Genesis, Game Cube, PSOne, PS2, PSP and a Dreamcast ( My original had the GD-ROM issue so I didn't get to enjoy that as much). I am glad I found your channel after seeing your interview on the Toy Collectors KZfaq channel.

One of my favorite accessories was the adapter to play master system games on my game gear. I think we were in the super nintendo or n64 era and my friend gave me his master system. They weren't as common on the US as the genesis so I never knew anyone else who owned one. Its fun going back to a system you missed out on and exploring the library of games.

Total nostalgic for me, Sega was my first system as a kid with Joe Montana football 94. My next system was a game gear and fell head over heels for hand held console. The television system anyone could possibly play. But when you own the hand held it felt intimate, everyone couldn't have access to it...

I'm currently modding a Sega Game Gear, just been backlogged on fixing other game consoles. Anyways, there's obviously an aftermarket screen mod because the original is very washed out and not as crisp as this one. Board has new capacitors. New shell, buttons, and screen protector. Not sure if there's an audio mod with 2 speakers or if the shell was purchased for the looks and still has the single speaker. For a complete ultimate mod, whoever did should have gone with installing an aftermarket power board that comes with a USB-C charging port and install rechargable batteries.

That game gear looks pretty good! You should look into the analogue pocket if you haven't already. It can play all gameboy, game gear, turbographx/pc engine, atari lynx, and neo geo pocket. It help save money by not having to mod all of the old handhelds but you need to buy the adapters separately tho.

@thequeeng2282 Well, the analogue pocket is not necessarily emulation, it's FPGA, pretty much almost the same as original hardware ,but you can't go wrong with original hardware. You should add a rechargeable battery mod to that game gear, and you are good to go!

I got my gamegear at toysr us but the Majesco version. Never used it outside the house cuz the batteries died way too fast and cost too much to replace. I play the games on my analogue pocket now days.
