UPDATE - I have now been bothered to take my door card off and adjust my window. It is now as it should be! Only cut myself once! 😂

mate that was a pure class. One day, i'll tell you about when i was student and put a garden fork through a computer because it had crashed once too often, days before handing a huge music project...as the parents of my then brand new housemate looked on in an astonished mix of horrified disbelief and stone cold, dry mouthed fear for their son's life.

All made mistakes lol, when removing the belt on my jcw to service the charger I put the tensioner pin in on the piss which caused the metal strip inside the spring to shear. Took it off the car and decided to ‘attempt’ a repair on the tensioner. Pulled the tensioner open and the spring launched up and nutted me on the forehead. £120 for a new tensioner and a headache later all sorted. Only redeeming factor the strut on the tensioner was shagged in the first place so did need to be replaced

We’ve all been there. Stripped threads on the cylinder head, snapped pinch bolts changing the shocks to coil overs, snapped trim clips, drilling out corroded ABS sensors, angle grinding the hand brake cables out of the rear callipers... the list goes on. But it’s worth it when you’ve learned something new and fixed something yourself.

Biggest mistake I made was damaging the treads on a drive shaft , luckily the replacement was very cheap

Here's a project for you - take the front Supercharger fill plug (behind the SC pulley)and see if there is any fluid in it. (have to remove water pump to get to the other plug) At 135k miles, I found that mine was empty. Big improvement with some fluid in there.(4oz) Also, don't overtighten your coolant bleed valve cause it cracks easily too. I cracked mine the other day, but just a little bit, so I put a hose clamp around it till I get a new one.

I had the supercharger serviced when I got the car, apparently it had oil in it but certainly needed a service at a 104k! I’ll have a little play around with the supercharger plugs when I hit 115k! I’ll let you know what I find...👍🏻

@@SULKNATIONtv I'm sure the other side behind the water pump on mine is dry. It only has 2oz in it to begin with but I've been putting it off. Might as well do all the coolant hoses, water pump and put a bigger intake on it if I'm gonna pull the supercharger. The clutch needs done too and eventually the bottom end so I've just been waiting to see what happens. I've put 60k miles on it in the past 5 years with only regular maintenance and mods.

I find the “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” ethos fails me regularly. It’s more “if at first you don’t succeed, try again, then get mad, then make matters worse, finally call a professional”! 😂

All part of the fun isn't it lol. I haven't had too much oopsies, the only time i've really lost my temper is when i was painting my door cards, spent ages masking off bits that i was going to do a bit of a pattern on, sprayed it, then accidentally knocked it off my bench on the very much unswept floor. Long story short had to find a bloke breaking a Mini locally and get a new set of door cards. So now technically my car has prefacelift door cards without the puddle light, but with the facelift inner handle with the bigger pad/arm rest thing lol
@SULKNATIONtv
@SULKNATIONtv 3 жыл бұрын
Mate, that’s some bad luck! Thankfully painting has been the one area I managed to not mess up! 😂 To be honest, other than the mistakes mentioned, I’ve been pretty ok with most of the work I’ve done myself, it just seemed to be when I’ve failed, it’s been fairly costly! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 Oh well, you live and you learn!

@@SULKNATIONtv I was going to do some black and yellow tiger pattern striping on the inner handle just for something different but when i got the second set i just painted it plain yellow with a black surround lol. I'm already kinda bored of it so i think i'm gonna get the door cards flocked when the dash and dash fascias go to be flocked 😅 Just think of them as expensive learning experiences lol
