I agree totally. A few years ago it was jeans - oldies shouldn't wear them...who says?? Take no notice. Wear what you feel you look good in and what fits your guild and body properly.

Oh yeah, you hit it...and I feel exactly the opposite...as you mature you gain 'license'. After you retire from a work situation that requires a dress code, formal or just simply 'understood'...To heck with it, I have gone to pull overs, shorts and casual shoes...got ride of almost all the rest...I now have to go look and see if I have anything other than a pair of 'dress sweat pants' lol.

Frankly, as long as you don't look totally ridiculous, you have the option to wear what ever you have discovered over the years suits you best. Something else to consider: when I was 40 one of the things we didn't have were easy care fabrics and fashions that looked casual and cool. Clothes were tighter and always needed ironing. Fly buttons were outlawed by Levi jeans for some stupid reason so we were stuck with zippers only; imagine that now! At 70, I make a point of always wearing what I like and look best in. I shave my face regularly, keep my own hair short because I think it suits me that way and take care of my body both with food I eat and exercise I take. I've been told in the past that jeans are a no-no for a person my age. I don't wear them much but when I do I team them with stuff that looks good and doesn't make me look stupid. Bottom line: I wear what I want and you should too when you reach my age.

At 67 I'm well past being concerned about looking "youthful". I wear Merrill outdoor shoes which go with almost anything, keep my clothing color-combo within reason, grooming standards up, and like most men around my age, I need to exercise more and eat smaller portions. I gave up drinking Scotch on a regular basis and eventually lost 30 pounds. Keep your sweet tooth in check as well. Skip some deserts completely and go easy on your favorites.

Hendrix more than Jagger, Perry more than Tyler, Lynott more than Lemmy, and Bonamassa more than Page. Redefining sartorial relevance for the baby boomer generation has nothing to do with current male fashions, instead it is about a mindset that pays homage to an age when rock icons defined what was cool and what wasn't. I pray that the baby boomers who worshipped these icons, will never lose sight of what they and others like them achieved, and that what they currently wear will always in some way reflect their individuality and rebelliousness.

Recently I made some lifestyle changes after realizing I had really let myself go over the last few years. I've also started paying attention to what guys are wearing that I think looks good and makes them look good too. I'm still learning (at fifty, LOL) to figure out the perfect combination of style and comfort, but I agree with everything in this video. I always wore New Balance and Nike athletic shoes, and when I started wearing clothes that fit me better, one of my friends at work took me aside and told me the shoes were too clunky looking and I needed to look into slimmer shoes. I took his advice and quickly learned he was right. And there are so many comfortable but fashionable casual shoes out there. Macy's sells slim dress pants that fit nicely and look nice. And my biggest change was wearing shirts that actually fit me instead of defaulting to overly baggy shirts that made me look 30 pounds bigger. If you're not interested in looking good, why are you watching a video like this in the first place? There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. Be who you are. But if you do want to look more stylish, I would definitely take this video's advice. Slimmer shoes, pants that aren't too baggy or skin tight (and honestly, I think that rule applies regardless of your age; I've never been attracted to guys who wear spandex or oversized pants), shirts that fit and look good on you without being uncomfortable (that's been more of a learning curve for me, as some of the shirts that look good on me tend to ride too high in the armpits and aren't comfortable). In the end, this video is aimed at guys that want to look fashionable and (yes, I'm going to say it) age-appropriate. That's not a bad thing. Don't knock the video because it wasn't aimed at you. But I will say this as a gay man, and I'm pretty sure most women would agree: I tend to notice men who dress sharp more than men who don't, regardless of what they look like. Clothes really do make the man.

Same here, when I was a kid my dad said poor people wear jeans so you will wear dress pants. When I left home I wore jeans from then on for 2 reasons, 1 they were the most comfortable thing I could wear, and 2, jeans are so durable they are almost bullet proof, I don't really care what fashion says because like most things now days every thing has an agenda. I've never been the kind of person that "worries" about what people think about me and I really don't give a *hit anyway. I like my jeans to fit but being 5 ft 7, it seems that the child labor making my jeans cannot read a tape measure because my inseam length is 30 inches but when I buy jeans I can't get anything shorter than 29 inches and they are still too long. I prefer a polo shirt but most likely will wear a T-Shirt but never a white one. I've been dressing myself for 65 years and like most people I'm a person of habit. I've never had anyone tell me that I should be arrested by the fashion police. It's really very simple I don't dress to catch someone's attention, I dress for my comfort. With people covering themselves with tats and coloring their hair 5 or 6 different colors, when I was a child, I got a lot of attention from my parents so I don't really want to do something to get people to look at me. I'd prefer it if they didn't look at me. I'm 68 years old, just leave me alone and go *uck yourself. The problem today is too many people are worried about what other people think of them, me? I don't give a *uck .

Depends on your marital status. If you are single and looking, go for it but don't complain if you aren't finding anyone. A 40+ year old bachelor wearing the latest Millennial fashion may not even get a date because the younger women are laughing at you and the older women well are laughing at you. It's like that guy who is trying so hard to cover his bald spot with a fly over. Shave it off.

Agree with everything you stated! I too have seen these very same mistakes made by men trying to still dress as though they are still in their 20’s. Saying that MOST 40+ men have a few pounds that they simply cannot loose no matter how much they exercise (perhaps they work to many hours each day or have to many responsibilities in their free time). I’d like to see more options for these sort of men i.e. those who hold a little extra weight (especially around the mid section). I look forward to seeing your new video on this.

I’m gonna be 37 next month and my wardrobe has definitely changed these last 2 years. I do believe in wearing whatever you want but at the same time I don’t wanna wear a lot of the same things I wore when I first turned 30. I do a lot of my shopping lately at J.Crew, Banana Republic, and also some Target and Marshall’s. I invest in quality pieces instead of cheaper made things. Which is why I can shop at better places now. I’ll purchase a very nice fitting shirt from one of the places above for 40 bucks instead of buying 5 shirts at Walmart for 40 bucks that don’t fit me very well. Another thing that I’ve picked up is tailoring my own clothes. That’s helped out a lot. Thanks for the video. I’m very happy to say that I don’t do any of hose things in your video. Lol!

I've realized after some time that men (in my opinion) want to look young, but are still feeling old on the inside which in turn their choice of clothing makes them a bit off especially how they carry themselves. If they dont feel it in the inside it's just not going to work. I'm almost 56 and I feel young on the inside. I also have an 8 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I always had a youthful mentality and my taste in fashion reflects that. I research KZfaq for ideas and information about enhancing myself from within and my style. Thank you for sharing.

I'd say just figure it out for yourself and make your own style. I'm 71 and buy stuff targeted at 18-30 year-olds all the time. I order from China when I don't see what I like/want here in the U.S. My friends who are 10-20 years younger than I compliment on my style all the time and ask where I shop. My friends 20-30 do the same. I stay pretty fit and make sure my clothes are a flattering fit to my body. I stay away from the extreme mega-destroyed or loose/baggy end of style. Really, the most important thing by far is to take care of your body. If you do that, then style comes pretty easy. And if you keep fit, then you will carry yourself with confidence and likely communicate a degree of happiness and openness that can draw people to you. (I'm 5'9", 165lbs. Losing 15 lbs over the past 10 years was a wonderful transformation, and easy - the product of re-joining the cyclist community.)

Honestly it might be because I’m a sneaker head but I do t like those kinda of shoes, of course I don’t really care if others wear it but I never will. There are so many brands that do it and they all look the same, I think they took too much inspiration from old basketball and skate shoes (convers one star and all stars, Stan smith, puma suede, blazer low, vans) to the point were you might as well get those retros. yes they are higher quality but not at all to the $200-400 that some companies want. If you have that budget tho the aj1 low OG for resale is nice

Your video was very helpful and many of the looks you shared of yourself were great. I loved the pink pineapple shirt! As a man of the age of 53 I do think it's fine to wear a loud/busy shirt if paired with a plain sweater/sweater vest and also a graphic t-shirt paired with a blazer, it helps tone things down and makes it more age appropriate. I also agree with you about personal style. I do think older men can wear ripped jeans but it needs to be controlled. I go for only a couple of holes then iron self adhesive canvas patches on the inside so it shows no skin and keeps the holes from growing bigger when laundered.

@chachi mogo I'm 55 also and I can tell you that when Michael S. and I were growing up EVERYONE was a lot less uptight about nudity. Wearing a speedo did NOT imply you were gay. Locker rooms? They're for changing, showers, steam baths, saunas, and hot tubs ... You're SUPPOSED to be naked there. Oh, and doing the 'towel dance' simply draws attention to yourself. It announces to the locker room that you have a small dick and are trying to hide it. Last thing: The guys you see in the locker room probably all own dicks themselves. Guys all know that dicks have minds of their own. Dicks grow, shrink, get hard, & get soft all on their own and they do NOT ask permission first, lol.

This whole thing mainly depends on where you live . In Berlin, Germany for example, men dress youthful and sporty up to their fifties and it is totally ok. Men under 30 are considered as kids ( by men and women ) so the range of well dressed good looking guys on the streets goes from 30 something until 50 something ... If you live in the suburbs or in a provincial town however, you might already be seen as an " older " guy, when you exceed 35. So place is more important than age ...

A mistake I have noticed: Men not caring to understand how personal style can become ones uniform; and different 'uniforms' or outfits, can align the mind towards performing certain tasks or aligning with certain qualities. Example: Dressing up as a form of training behavior; like, chastity or mild-manners -- dressing up or dressing down such that am mindful to monitor my behavior. For example, when I am down emotionally, my style of dress demands that I maintain 'stiffness' and other self-preservative qualities when in public -- in other words I will not /look/ depressed and neither will I be mentally impacted by my unflattering image (ie not caring, sloppy, mismatched etc).

Now I go for comfort and style. At 57 I wear slim fit or even skinny leg pants... who cares 😊 I stopped wearing jeans when I became 40. I can't stand them now 😬 I love vintage and second hand clothes. I guess I do have an advantage because i have a sewing machine and make my own clothes such as sweat tops from off cuts of jersey then adding vintage fabric. I also customise second hand clothes when I can be bothered. If I'm honest I think we do take fashion to seriously now a days . Fashion should to be fun and not treated as if we are going to war ... Wear what makes u happy is important because u can't wear it when your dead . 🙏

I totally get this. At 65, I still care about how I look and dress. My cardinal rule is “good shoes” and a “good watch”, and everything else falls into place ( most of the time ). Fitness is essential, and I workout three times a week. Being somewhat fit, well dressed, along with my cardinal rule, I always feel my best out in public, and maximize my self confidence. You are never too old to look your best, and enjoy some fashion upgrades on occasion. Buy quality Vs quantity. Avoid trendy style, but stay stylish, and you will feel, and look your best, even past your prime. Do it for you, your wife, your family.

Joseph Malone: This is the key. Yes! When you walk down the street with a feeling that "I belong in these clothes!" you can succeed with a variety of styles regardless of age. "I belong in these clothes!" is different from "I don't give a damn how I look, so I'll wear what I feel like wearing." The latter attitude is not limited to older men, of course. If you're honest with yourself and you think you look odd now in something you looked good in before, well, you're thinking about wearing those clothes out and about now, not twenty years ago. A lot of what this guy says makes common sense. Clothes should fit.to accentuate one's strengths. But that's like saying that in a job interview you should point out your strengths and not dwell on your weaknesses. One should also not follow every trend, simply because it is popular among this or that group, just like one doesn't in music, food (there is no reason to eat arugula if you don't like arugula -- I happen to like it), films and TV. Kind of obvious, no? If you're fifty and haven't learned that yet, this video is not going to change you.
