The most curious thing about this clip is that the "tall man" verse is the only one in which the camera is focused directly on Fred -- in all the other verses, we see either a wide shot of the table or one of the children. It's as if the camera operator was intentionally putting Fred in the spotlight at that point as a joke.

Everyone knows he flips the double bird in this video. However, something else needs to be noted... Notice how inclusive that clip was given the time of filming. There was no discrimination. It was the same with the famous clip with officer Clemens and Mr Rogers putting their bare feet into the kiddie pool together. That was one of the things I liked about watching Mr Rogers when I was young, and even now. He didn't care about race or ethnicity. We were all people. 😊

Yes, Fred knew the meaning. After all, the middle finger gesture goes back to the Roman empire and Fred was an intellectual, having studied the classics in great detail. But also keep in mind that Fred started his career as an NBC live TV production manager and so he knew how to carry on a show even when it wasn't quite what was planned.

Aside from the obvious tall man jokes, I think what’s really special is when they do ring finger and Fred acts like he’s struggling to get his ring finger up as he looks at the kid to his right who is also struggling. It's actually more common than you think. I have trouble moving my left hand ring finger without moving the pinky and I can feel tightness in my arm near the wrist. I guess the ligaments for those 2 fingers are kinda attached to each other but I can move my right hand ring finger by itself fine
