Probably going to work on getting this set up this weekend. 3.1 was on the first PC I ever used and I have a soft spot for it.

My goodness! I completely forgot about Windows 3.1 Lu. Man. Those were the days. But it was Windows 95 that blew me away for sure. 8^) Anthony..

Yes, Windows 3.1 was cool to get work done, but Windows 95 made gaming much better.

Love it, thank you so much for your videos. Question: is it possible to install more than 1 OS for AO486 at the same time? For example, Win3.1 and Win95. If so, could you do a video of creating partitions and installing some example OSs?

I am doing research on dual booting multiple OS's on one VHD. Not sure when it will be done though. Ultimately, I think it's just easier to create a separate VHD for each OS you want to use, and switch to a different OS VHD and reboot. It's the method I currently use.

I believe it does from some research I did a while back. I do plan on testing Win 98 soon to see what kind of video I can create out of it. In the meantime, I just posted a video about installing Windows 95, so check it when you have time.

Very good guide! I honestly don't know what i'd play on win3.1 that I have any desire to play. Maybe simtower. Maybe hoyle card games. Maybe doom. hmmmm. :D

Thanks! Windows 3.1 didn't perform well with DOS native games, I never got Doom to work well with it. But a game that surprised me that actually ran well in Windows 3.1 on my old 486SX machine was Alone in the Dark.

Oh that's a shame :( is the performance any better if you exit windows and start the game on the command prompt? Or dos in general just doesn't run well

@@SinisterSpatula Yes, it runs much better when you exit Windows 3.1. The reason being is before Windows 95, Windows did not give programs good access to the hardware, so games couldn't utilize the hardware properly. Exiting Win3.1 to play games would be the authentic experience. Use, Win3.1 to do your work and play simpler games. And when you want to do some real gaming you would exit to DOS.

If you had a files from another mister already set up. Will it work? Or do you have to do it all manually? Not like it can access the internet to check or even supported to check again.

Yes they will work on another MiSTer, all you have to do is copy the AO486 VHD's from one MiSTer's SD Card to the other.

I think the midi file gives you an error because after you've loaded a wav, it sets the file type to .wav. When you go back in after the error, it has set the file type back to all files 😎
