Thanks! The MS9 was harvested from a Sega Astro City candy cab. The 27" Zenith tube that was in there originally was burned out when I received the cab.

Yes, the CHAMMA switch will allow the Select button to be a bindable button on an MVS cab. You will need an MVS to JAMMA adapter for the cab.

It depends. The console and arcade cores all operate at 15kHz, so you may want to use 15 on your monitor to match the native resolution. 31kHz requires upscaling and although the MiSTer has a fast, quality upscaler, why use something you don’t have to? That said, the upscaler does allow you to scale & rotate the output (run vert tate games on a hori monitor) and apply scanlines and video filters, so use 31khz if you plan on using any of those features.

I haven’t used the JAMMA Expander myself but if it works like the MiSTercade, you should be able to pull up the MiSTer Menu, go right one screen, and choose Bind Controls. As you step through the control bindings one by one, when it asks for a Coin binding, drop a coin into you cab.

Some of the cores (including Contra) have a Flip option in the Menu settings for the core that will flip the image 180 degrees to match your CCW profile. However, some cores don't have a Flip option and there isn't an easy solution for those games that I know of currently. There has been some discussion of adding a 180 degree rotation option to the MiSTer's scaler implementation, which would make that feature available to all games.

@@ShootTheCore Thanks - yeah Contra and Journey don't seem to have that option (flip), Donkey Kong, Pacman etc do tho and it works. I'm thinking I may need to flip my tube to CW position and configure DoDonpachi as the exception to flip. Are you able to flip Contra in MiSTer by chance?

@@wrightguyz Yep, start Contra and then go into the DIP Switches menu. You’ll see Flip Screen as an option in there. Change it and then choose Reset at the bottom of the list.

Thanks - wow I must have checked that at least 5 times...Jedi Mind Trick, hah...journey and "up & down" don't have flip currently either in core or DIP switch controls.

The screen will scramble and roll because the signal is higher than the display is designed to handle.

12V is already present on every stock JAMMA harness - no hacking necessary. Original JAMMA games use 12V to power the sound circuits and speakers. Just plug the MiSTercade into your stock E2 harness and power on! :-)

Yep, you should be able to install a MiSTer in your Arcade1Up cab without a MiSTercade. Use HDMI for the video, plug the controls into a micro-USB hub, and power it with the AC adapter that comes with the DE-10 Nano.

@@ShootTheCore I figured that was the way to go. I actually have a mister fpga already.. i had thought i needed a separate mistercade for arcade use..now I have to return the mistercade and sdram I bought from misteraddons lol..

@@ShootTheCore I already have a premade fully loaded mister fpga digital version that has an sdram i bought from misteraddons.. the mistake i made was buying the mistercade thinking i could use it in my other modded arcade1up cab (it has an rpi4).. however the mistercade needs a jamma connection and has to be with an old school cab like in your vid. i made a novice mistake.. for those reasons I will be asking for a refund/return once i receive the mistercade/sd ram in the mail

Most HDMI displays don’t support 15khz (320x240) resolution, so that’s likely why you’re not seeing anything from your HDMI port. As for the arcade ROMs, make sure you’re running the update_all script and not just the regular update script. I built a fresh MiSTer last week and update_all still downloaded all of the arcade ROMs for me properly.

@UC3faVp03qcy9WpyyJLYvKtQ when the mister is running the update all, you have a couple of seconds to hit an arrow key (can’t recall which) that goes into further settings. There you can enable MAME Gettr that download the Roms. You can select other stuff too.

A SuperGun is designed to connect a JAMMA arcade board up to a consumer TV. The MiSTercade will work with a SuperGun if you have one but it’s easier and cheaper to just hook MiSTer up to a consumer TV directly without using either a SuperGun or the MiSTercade add-on hat. As for stereo over JAMMA, the standard doesn’t allow for it - it’s Mono only.

​@@ShootTheCoream I right in understanding that all cores output Stereo, but via Jamma it is mono only? And the only way to get Stereo, is to bypass the Jamma connector? And the way to bypass that is to either plug something in to the RCA jack or the 3.5mm Mini jack? So I theory, you could have an astro city, which is mono only. Set up a mistercade, then replace the existing crappy speakers with a 2.1 system, power that up separately, and plug in to the mistercade mini jack - and you're good to go?

@@sinetwo MiSTer itself has stereo audio, but much of the hardware that MiSTer cores simulate was mono back in the day. With the MiSTer’s current arcade cores for example, Capcom CPS1.5 and CPS2 are pretty much the only stereo cores-everything else is mono. Likewise, all JAMMA arcade cabs are designed to support mono sound through the harness with an amplifier on the game board itself. Only a few JAMMA cabs (Astro City is one of them) also supported stereo audio amplified via a dedicated amp inside the cab. Original game boards would send both amplified mono audio over JAMMA and line-level stereo through RCA ports simultaneously. Cabs with a stereo amp typically have a switch to flip the speaker output between dual mono board-amp-driven audio and stereo cab-amp-driven audio. MiSTercade acts the same as an original stereo JAMMA board - it outputs amplified mono audio through the JAMMA harness and line-level dual mono or stereo audio (depending on the core) through RCA ports simultaneously. @@ShootTheCore thanks so much. I find it so odd that stereo wasn't a primary consideration at the time, but I appreciate that earlier it may have been in the transition period. Or arcades were just too loud to care. As far as I'm aware, the OG Astro City is mono by default. New Astro City is stereo. But with this setup, it sounds like I could get the OG AC, rip out the crappy speakers, install a small 2.1 system, and just run the audio via the breakout on the Mister board.

Double-check that all the connections are tight and also try changing the jumper on the MiSTercade that selects whether it's powered by your arcade PSU's 5V or 12V line to the other setting from where it is currently.

MiSTer is still your best option currently for FPGA arcade emulation.

Yes, the Coin trigger on the mechanism shows up in MiSTer as a button, so you can bind a Coin insert to any input the game supports - including the Coin input for the console cores. You could insert a coin on a console core to pause the game for example. :-)
