My friend, I am watching your videos like they are a fix for my Meth addiction. Thank you! Two things: I recommend that people should test the unit and it's operations BEFORE assembling the chassis. If any mistakes were made, you can diagnose without having to take apart what you just put together. Also, has anyone tested the latency from PC to CRT? For me, this is the most important consideration. Flat screens/digital displays inherently have latency due to the digital processing, though the most expensive OLEDs are getting better. However, motion blur is still a problem. CRTs at native resolutions have zero latency, making them ideal for competitive shooters and pro gamers. So it is important to know if there is lag caused by the MiSTer and how much? Thanks again, you are awesome.

The noctua fan comes with a soft rubber mount that absorbs vibration and avoids making rattling noises like you sometimes get fixing fans with regular screws, but they're quite a bit annoying to install, I don't blame you for not using them. For whatever reason, I didn't get the correct size brass screws/stands that go between the IO board and the top of the case and it wouldn't fit. Luckily I have a friend with a lathe, so he cut those to the correct size for me.

Also, you can use samba or sftp to send files to the MiSTer without turning it off and removing the SD card to plug it in the computer. Whenever it is connected, you can check the IP address on the resolution, volume & alt settings screen. Type root for user and 1 for password. IIRC by default you'll have SSH and SFTP enabled, but I'm not sure samba is set up by default, to have easier access from Windows.

The scan doubler isn’t just for digital displays. It’s also for VGA displays since they often don’t support 15khz (240p). They usually do support 31khz (480i/p).

hmmm interesting, the video processing don't work on vga right?

@@VKsChannel I’ve not updated in years but mine is configured for it. I believe I had to enable scan doubling for the VGA output in an ini file for the analog output. Same place where you enable Sync in Green for YPbPr component.

480i is 15kHz.

Can you clarify that bit at the end about analog audio output? A lot of the popular kits seem to specify that their I/O boards only offer digital audio and video out.
@VKsChannel
@VKsChannel Жыл бұрын
On retroscaler kit they have a headphone jack for analog audio output and that output has no latency From what I know all IO boards have a headphone jacks

@@VKsChannel I see, I thought that's what it was, but googling "analog audio" of course got me many different results, and it was faster to comment than to look for a picture of an IO board. Thanks! Nice video.

Am I correct? You can't save everywhere during the game, for example, like in FCEUX?

What's going on with the "Trinitron shadow mask". Those terms are mutually exclusive right?
@VKsChannel

They are just trying to imitate the effect of a trinitron tv its not official or anything just the name of the display it tried to mimic

@@VKsChannel I wonder if they are trolling. Typically people divide up crts visually based on whether they have a shadow mask or aperture grill. Maybe the creators confused the term "screen" with shadow mask and just assumed all crts screens are shadow mask. Trinitrons have an aperture grill screen that looks very different from a shadow mask.

@@riggel8804 Technically speaking Aperture Grilles are a kind of shadow mask still iirc, just the terminology is rarely ever used like that. Like how people sometimes refer to slot masks and shadow masks as separate things (when they mean slot mask and dot mask), just to a much larger degree.
@riggel8804
@riggel8804 Жыл бұрын
@@TeeBeeDee That's not my understanding. I think Shadow mask tubes are fundamentally different. I believe Sony patented the "aperture grill" technology which forced other manufactures to use shadow mask screens as to not run afoul of copyright laws.

MiSTer's digital audio outputs shouldn't have latency it's your tv that's adding that latency.

You can ask for the seller to send the unit already assembled But if you assemble it yourself you'll get to understand the whole system better There is a complete review of the mister here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5aIqKSguNOUgGw.html

Indeed but in this tutorial the idea is to get at least close to a crt on an lcd You can always use mister with a CRT for the best results
