@seairratiane5643 yeah my ex step father Jerome was very abusive and controlling at the time he had my mom scared even me too...although I had moments where I wanted to kill him back then. I'll say he was about to hurt my mother if had to fight him to protect us I would...even though he was pretty bigger and much stronger than me I would have had to fight him off with all my strengths and might even if I bleeded a little I wouldn't have let him hurt her, my grandmother wanted to fight him she was older so she wasn't as tough as I would have been. Not only that I've gone through emotional abusive bullying P.T.S.D from a work place the punk named Jamal was a bullying manipulator out to get what he wanted if he'd hype you up,he'd put you down to make you feel like a fool... he'd twist things around just to throw you off from the truths smh...that time when he tried to set me up to fail at work to get me fired I pissed but I had to stop him...or else I would have had no choice but to beat his ass,luckily I'm not around him no more I'm with nicer people and if I see him I'd say hi and bye like he don't even exist...he was lucky I didn't lay him out in front of my other supervisor charelle. I tried explaining what happened even though I gotten into trouble but I still didn't deseved to be undermined I tried speaking out on my bullying story no one listened to me so I had to surivive on my own crazy right? if your going through abusive patterns your not alone.

Mitch acknowledged that if he lands one good time, it’s over, so the movie acknowledges exactly what some of yall are saying and thinking. But this scene is just another example of a big guy with no skill, no training and no stamina against a small woman who is trained and was prepped for everything he could do by a big man who specializes in this type of training. If you see the training video prior to this scene, it showed everything that Mitch did in this scene and she was trained well to be ready for all of it. Also there’s a few things to remember for this scene in particular… 1) The movie did a pretty good job of showing how tough Slim was since the beginning with taking punches 2) She was coated in vaseline so he couldn’t grip her during this scene 3) She had on timberlands (likely steel toe) so those kicks were be nasty and that’s why the one she landed knocked his head back. 4) She also had big rings on under those hand wraps so those punches and slaps were like wearing brass knuckles so even if he blocked, that would still hurt.

It didn’t feel right that she snuck in and prepared to fight him, but then again, he drove her out, had her stalked, and traumatized their child with the abuse. It would’ve been best to stay separated, but he would’ve definitely found a way to harm the mother and claim full custody for their daughter. Just wish the choreography for this fight was a bit more realistic.

@BellaKarim23
@BellaKarim23 26 күн бұрын
Actually it is realistic. Mitch is an untrained abuser he goes for the easy shots that use his strength against his much smaller opponent. Slim, on the other hand, had a trainer working with her who was bigger than Mitch who showed her how a fighter with no training fights and how to get free of the holds they use. Untrained fighters for example go for the throat, a quick choke and opponent is down. A trained fighter KNOWS it's too easy to get out of a knock grab and would use a different method, the good old fashioned choke hold which is arm around the neck rather than hands, it's rleasy to break out of a hand hold when the fingers cannot go around the neck, but the neck inside an elbow crees with the rest of the arm locked around it is much harder, not impossible but harder to get out of. Being prepared to get free of the moves that untrained fighter usenis the first thing they teach in self defense course for women. We also learn how to get out of better holds such as the choke hold and even the splayed position we're usually held down in when assaulted

You dont need to learn how to fight to beat someone bigger than you. Because "beating" someone is a waste of time in modern days. All that fancy martial arts crap doesnt mean jack if the opponent is armed or ambushes you. People should stop treating each other like arse and should not appear in these "fights" to prove their ego stroking-points. Its gets you hurt at best, or k1lled at worst. Realistic or not she had to fight back in any way she could. I think the most, I wouldn’t unrealistic part, maybe luckiest, was that she had a rich father who, although he was absent, actually came to care about her.

No actually, because in reality majority of the time men are physically stronger than women so it’s very rare to see a guy scared and running away from a woman when they aren’t generally stronger than us, there are obviously women who are stronger than some men but in general we were made to be stronger and I think that was for a reason

@@NavyGuy2OO7 like I said, in general women aren’t strong enough to beat up a man, but there are exceptions, for example if the man is smaller and lighter than she is, or if he’s out of shape and she’s a bodybuilder and trains in boxing or martial arts of some kind, or just the rare chance that she’s just genetically stronger because of her parents being strong and passing those genes on. My point wasn’t that women can’t beat us up, it was just that it’s very rare for them to be stronger than us because basic biology has dictated that men have denser bones and a greater durability in general, women beat us out in pain tolerance but men can take as well as fish out more punishment without complaining too much

I disagree with everything this comment section is saying. Sure, this guy can can finish the fight with one big hit. But apart from being born a man and big, he hasn't lifted anything heavy a day in his life, he drinks, punches his wife left and right and in front of their daughter. Now the protagonist has had enough of the abuse but can't run anywhere because the guy is wealthy and connected. What keeps her going right now is her daughter. So she has the motivation and she is determined to do whatever it takes. She hires a guy who is specialized in this matter. She trained day and night, thought of every single possibility, prepared for everything, determined to save herself and her daughter. In the final fight, she wasn't just standing there, going toe to toe with him, she was athletic, he wasn't. She took advantage of that. In the end, she won but not flawlessly because well, you know, he towers her and has some big knucles but a victory for her none the less. Now, you mean to tell me that's complete fantasy or comedy or whatever? I believe this could happen with a guy like this but it would be 1 in a million cases because it's scary and it takes a lot out of you. I'm just saying, this may be a fantasy and imperfect, but it was nice to see the abused win this way for once. I appreciate the sentiment and I applaude her.

Yeah, definitely a movie. Because in a real life situation, this guy would be out of commission after the first fall. You can argue that a womans punch is weak, but him hitting the furniture and falling down straight is the real deal here. Its just physics in action. Id say that by the second fall he would have either his ribs broken or at the very least bruised - which is very painful. All those kick to the head would result in minor concussion at the very least. This mans body behaves like its made of rubber. That is pure fantasy. Our bodies in real life are much more fragile. Men may have more muscle mass than women, making us stronger, but as far as durability goes, we hold no advantage, coz muscles are not an armor.

This movie pointed out domestic abuse for both sex's. It saddens me to say this cause i loved this movie when it come out..... He was a physical & emotional abuser (the line about not seeing the child) & a coward. She was smarter but essentially also an abuser... the line with "i just slapped your around a bit" was interesting, reverse the roles, men cannot get away with it... it's literally domestic abuse - violence knows no gender. It also points out how privileged women are to be able to do it with much less repercussions. She also points out the flaw in the system for self defense which we know the courts the side with women for & she admits to potential pre-meditated murderer. Her standing up for herself is still an amazing story but looking back knowing what i know now, it's awkward and problematic.

A lot of guys overestimate their fighting abilities when they haven't been in an extended fight or played sports since high school. The average middle aged office worker is no killer. I went to a BJJ class for the first time since high school and after a few minutes I felt dead on energy and weak. I would stall and then try to fight in a 3 second burst before I was dead again and I was clearly bigger than the dude I was grappling. It sucked. I remember rolling for a half hour no problem in high school. Jennifer Lopez ain't no house mom she would beat the piss out of many of you especially the 40 and over sedentary workers.

It’s not entirely unrealistic because she was dodging more than anything. When he did hit her, she fell. He almost had her, but she was able to use his own weight against him. When she blocked, she used both arms. So, it’s not like it was strength vs strength. Still, not a good plan in real life.

You know, the movie could have been a bit better if it actually bothered to explain Mitch's possessive and controlling desires more, but instead they just completely dehumanized him into an evil Hollywood Psychopath whose motives for keeping his marriage/family afloat are rather unclear, considering his hypocritical nature. I liked Sleeping with the Enemy better because it actually gave some context into Martin's abusive and controlling nature and you could understand exactly how it was intended to benefit him.

I completely understand your thought process- but unfortunately, people like Mitch exist. My dad is one. People like that are so obsessed over their image that they will beat, torture, stalk, even kill, to maintain the lie they’ve made everyone else believe about them. And that lie is either that they’re the perfect person, or sometimes that they’re the victim of the world mistreating them. They don’t need a better reason more than ‘I own you (and therefore are a reflection of me) and I look like a fool if you’re allowed to defy me/leave me’. Their ego is so weak they can’t tolerate their image not being exactly what they want it to be.
