So this guy, unlike these keyboard experts on youtube, admitted that the J-20 is not a copy of America's F-22?

The J-20 is a long range advanced interceptor and a promising platform for deep penetration strike. The size allows for respectable internal fuel and weapon payload, the weapon bay can house larger long range missiles as well as standoff strike munition. There is no official announcement that it is an air superior fighter, in fact, the high wing loading, loosely coupled canard and great length are all hallmark characteristics of optimization for high speed and stability for maximum payload, nothing close to what is needed for dog fight. All flight videos available had not shown particularly impressive agility. There is nothing wrong with such a design as long as it serves its design purpose well. It's only bystanders and laymen on the web who chanted so much about the capability of this aircraft, all without official acknowledgement. I would see it as a stealthy interdictor strike aircraft as well as an advanced BVR long range interceptor specialized in hunting down high value targets such as AWACS and tankers, also serving as a mini-awac itself, more like the MiG-31 commanding a wing of J-10 or UAV's at a safe distance away. In no way could the J-20 excel a SU-35 or even a J-10 in close air combat. Perhaps with 2 additional engines, a scaled up version of the J-20 could even make a credible supersonic bomber in the class of the TU-22M. The canard would probably compensate for the swing wing in take-off performance. All comments on the viability or comparative performance of the J-20 against any other aircraft are purely speculations, no one is certain about the intended use of the J-20 and it is how it performs in its intended role that counts.

I really hope that the us military has built out a fully proprietary completely internal network. Currently private and public systems are just too vulnerable.

From 3rd gen leapfrog to 6th gen weapon systems, very daunting task. Synthesize new cross-domain effects, but that will make 6th gen platforms redundant.

Pretty much same as most of the informed commenters I’ve read have said on the j20 - a long range interceptor probably designed to go after high value targets like awacs, tankers and ISR aircraft etc. All makes sense and fits with China’s overall strategy of trying to negate US.overall strength and fighting asymmetrically. Fits in well with what he said about US concerns that China may be out sticking them with range of their air to air missiles as well. Don’t see any insult to anyone here. Good strategy by China and the US as usual working hard to maintain their advantage and constantly looking to make sure they’re not preparing for yesterday’s war. IRL no one worries about hypothetical one on one dogfights. Firstly any fight would be at least a pair of two or four ships, each supported by increasingly complex number of supporting assets all making a big difference to what would happen. Modern war is being planned at much more complex levels than spitfires, ME262s and mustangs fighting it out over ww2 Europe.

Information sharing amongst very capable units that know their role. Imagine 2 football teams facing each other without the numbers and they do not know who the quarterback or tightend is until the game starts and the fist quarter of p[lay is done. Each team has a playbook and runs it as best they can against the opposition. The chinese have the long throwing arms, the USA has lots of practice just doing their job......

J20 has never been tested in real battle. It's still open to double whether it could pose a threat to its counterparts like F35 or Su57.

J 20 is built a bigger engine and fuel tank for a longer flight/distance and longer present in the air, however, it is yet to be tested its full built-up components' reliability of these 2 easy done aspects, is designing similar to a private passenger jet features, smaller but flew a longer distance at a faster speed. A run out of idea poor man design.

a few deflections from those canards will send a radar return to a modern electronically scanned array. J-20 will not get the first shot. Getting in close for WVR combat with F-22/35, and the 6th gens will never happen. This thing might beat F15s easily, but it better concentrate on using standoff munitions against surface targets. ..it's also not LO from the rear. Looks like several large reflectors in the rear. ...and system to system combat means it is NOT the platform that matters. Range of platform is irrelevant in system to system warfare. It means the entire combat infrastructure. It is not apparent yet if the Chinese can support what Deptula ^^ calls the "combat cloud". Very good job for a first 5th gen aircraft though. They're doing better than the Russians. It is a true revolution in Chinese air power. ...not a threat to USAF though. Not unless you build 1,000 of them, which might be the plan.

J-20, much like the F-35, is an unfairly criticized platform. They definitely reverse engineered it but not much is known about its capabilities.
