Sampling my colonies revealed that mite levels in at least one hive had reached the treatment threshold so time to treat. The weather forecast is good to use Formic Pro so time to take action.

I love formic pro. Highly effective. It's all about temperature. This is my FAVORITE bee channel.

Glad you enjoy it!

I think it’s much easier to count mites from under the jar rather than in the (dirty) tub. Especially if you use the Randy Oliver swirl method. It would seem a lot of people are seeing low mite counts this year. I’m not sure why, but I’ll take it!

That can be true but my mite check pot has gone quite opaque so the tray solves that issue.

I was surprised to see you sampling two adjacent hives with entrances pointing the same direction. I would have expected enough natural drift between the colonies that they would have similar mite levels. Obviously I was wrong.

I had planned to check 4-5 colonies but once I got a 12 I didn't need to! Drifting would be more of an issue in the Fall I think.

I have a few questions about Formic Pro; 1. When using Formic Pro, should you not feed bees in the hive ? 2. What about in buckets w/ food outside the hive while treating bees? 3. How long do you leave the Formic Pro strips in the hive? Once you take the strips out of the hive can you begin feeding? 4. How many days after your first treatment should you do your 2nd treatment? Thank you!

You should not feed internally when using Formic Pro , it causes increased winter mortality for some reason. External feeding is fine. Pads should be removed after a month.

Maybe if your helper wood wash his veil with soap and water by hand it may take that smell off where the bees won't love him so much

They actually left him alone relatively speaking today...he was thrilled!

Do you have queen issues with formic pro? I am afraid of using it for that reason also it is hard to find a day under 85 degrees. But the bees keep the hive over 90 degrees.
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer3 жыл бұрын
You need nearly a week below 85 degrees. If Temps get above that then yes there are queen issues. If below there are very few.

Will the acid affect the honey in the hive?
@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer3 жыл бұрын
No, It does not affect the honey....and will also pentrate the capped brood to kill mites.
