I'm of the same mind on Ballistas. Especially Helepoli. Get a bunch together backed up by a few melee units and some priests and there's very little that can touch them

As long as you don't run into catapults you are basically untouchable. Or a very big cavalry group. Something along those lines. But even then you need a lot to truly punish them and when they are protected, good luck getting to them. I also like to supplement them with Scythe Chariots when possible, they can quickly cut down enemy catapults

I threw the whole starting army at southern red base, killed a lot but failed. Saved 3 infantry and 1 scout and took red north base with that alone. Otherwise did exactly as you did, but boomed in the same location while walled off. Then juggernauts the clear the way for transports to land heavy catapults to wreck the wonder from the shore.

i really think this game would benefit from better pathfinding and a pop limit of 100 instead of 50, it's supposed to be the Definitive Edition cmon

Pathfinding is horrible, I agree. But the missions were designed around a pop limit of 50, increasing it to 100 would make them much easier. And you can increase it past 50 in random map games.

@@vanle3 idk man, 50 just doesn't seem to be enough sometimes, for a decent economy you need around 20 villagers, then for missions like this you need a good amount of triremes (you had like a dozen or so in the last mission? I think that's a good number across all naval missions tbh), for the most part a good army (except for things like the last mission where it's not necessary), all that together you are pretty much right on the line, and if there's a contingency it would be rough. Even if 100's too much 75 still makes a good alternative

@@TheFirstGoomba Oh I agree and that is correct. I think what sometimes keeps me from playing the campaign efficiently is the paranoia of 3 minute attacks where you have nothing to defend yourself because you spent it on your economy. That being said, sometimes I just forget or didn't pay the attention I should have.

dude i did the same thing in the definitive edition without knowing it was an old strategy from the original, took me 2 minutes to beat the scenario.
