Those little rings for the mitre saw that you took off so you could reduce the width of the saw footprint are called C Clips. Great vid!!! Keep ‘em coming!!!

You made the right decision to lower the bench and not raise the saw to get it all level. When I did my mitre saw station I raised the saw with spacers and over time they would come loose or wear out due to the vibration of the saw. It was a real pain where the sun don't shine so I modified it the way is should have been done the first time. But I really do need a good vacuum and that Makita one looks real nice. I also like to use a note from Norm Abram from the New Yankee workshop. There is no more important safety rule then to wear these, safety glasses.

Oh that’s so nice to hear because I thought it was the better way to go. Glad I did it then. The Makita vacuum is great so far. It has some serious suck power. Thanks for stopping by

That's a nice looking vac. Jelly. Funny, I am considering adding a shroud as you take yours away. Will be keen to see how you feel about it after a few weeks and if you miss it. I've been a fenceless fan for a while. I do a lot of small cutting on mine and made a long stop-block that reaches all the way to the saw blade from the t-track, might be handy :) These improvement videos are super useful for ideas, worth filming!
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Жыл бұрын
Hey James! I have your stop block in mind because I love how it goes to the blade for smaller cuts. I think its the way to go. What I like about the shroud being gone so far is with the wireless vac I can turn it on from the saw without turning the saw on so I can switch it on and quickly take the hose out of the back of the saw and clean up anything around the saw and work bench. With the shroud on I couldn't easily get to the hose. So far I like that ability. :)

I have had my makita saw for about eighteen years similar model to your old makita, never new you could still use it for set cuts without the knob. Just removed the knob from my saw very happy. Steve

I don’t know on makita, but all other ones I’ve seen, those knobs almost always lock it into place firmly into the detents, while the pull part just gets it mostly there

I think your right. I haven’t had any issues with it moving or not cutting right on 90 degrees so I will keep an eye on it. Will be keen to see if over time does it become an issue. Don’t know why they make the handles so dam big!!! Thanks for stopping by😀

Great reorganisation project Ainslee. I don't think it should have been easy to realise that the grip handle should have been in place all the time. I would have assumed it was necessary for accurate registration in every angle including the usual 90 degree station. The advantage with the vacuum is that you can decouple it and use it anywhere you want unlike the dedicated dust collector. That vac would take up half the floorspace in my little workshop! A real pain to have to adjust for the different heights, I wonder if there would be such a thing as 4mm plate aluminium to act as a spacer? Onwards and upwards for the S F Creations workshop! Eryk :-)
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Жыл бұрын
Hey Eryk I hear you about the grip handle. It would make sure it 100% stays in place even at the 90 but I haven't had any issues yet. If I notice it become a problem I will put it back in but just nice to know what its for. Yep I could have put a spacer in. I was worried it might move over time. Thank you so much Eryk for all your kind words and stopping by

Put a sheet of 3 mm ply under the saw

You could do that for sure. I was worried about it moving or the saw weight on it changing the height over time

@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Жыл бұрын
They sure are Nick. Not going to put the hood on. I’m hoping the dust collect in the saw works much better then the old one and there isn’t a need. However I didn’t cut the back of the work bench down just in case I want to put it back in. For the moment it’s working well without it 😀

Great upgrade to your space! You've done away with the shroud? I put one in for mine, even added another port to collect the dust that falls to the bottom but it still isn't amazing, almost wondering whether it was all worth it, i'd always hoped it would be better than it is! I'm a big fan of linking the vac to the saw, every now and again I simply forget to switch on the dust collector before a quick cut and this would remove that possibility. In an ideal world I'd have a vac connected to the saw, automatically starting for most quick cuts, then if I'm doing anything more like trenching etc turn on the more elaborate system to catch everything else. Cheers!
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I agree with the quick cut. I at times forget also. I have done away with the shroud as I like that I can turn the vac on from the saw without turning the saw on and I can take the hose off quick and clean up any dust around the workbench. If I put the shroud on it then isn't easy to get to the vac hose. So far happy with the upgrade and I'm impressed with the battery life. I don't use the saw everyday and its still going from when I first set up the saw which is about 3 weeks ago now.

Why not put a 4mil sheet under the mitre saw rather than cut-down all the other sections?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Жыл бұрын
Could 00% do that. I just didn't want to risk movement of the material under the saw being compressed over time.

@@SmallFryCreations There are plenty of alternative materials that maybe you could have considered, to raise the saw, other than wood such as a non-slip mat, a rubber mat etc. Also, did you check to see if the saw has adjustable feet?
@SmallFryCreations

@@Michael-AUS Of course lots of options. No adjustable feet on the saw.
