This shabad, 'Mittar Pyare Nu' was written by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji while he was in the Machhiwara forest, after the battle of Chamkaur Sahib, where he had to part from his family and many of his beloved Sikhs who attained martyrdom. The shabad reflects his unwavering faith and devotion to God despite the intense hardships and personal losses he faced.
It was a very special experience to sing this shabad with the incredible qawalli brothers of Pakistan, Zain Zohaib, in their studio in Lahore, which was sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in a gurduara in Slough, UK in the 1980s. Zain Ali and Zohaib Ali are the grandsons of Ustad Haji Rehmat Ali Khan who performed with Nusrat ji on 2nd harmonium for 40 years.

Played it on my phone on the way home in tram here in Budapest, instantly closed. Got home, covered my head, and listened for three times. I guess that is what happens when you grow up in Delhi in a mohalla that has two gurudwara. thudhh bin rog rajaaeeaa dhaa oudtan 🙌

Fantastic. Just to shed some light on Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab. He sang at the Ramgharia Gurdwara, Woodland Avenue Slough on the 31st December 1989. That day there was no room anywhere in the Gurdwara as people from surrounding areas came to witness him singing shabad at the Gurdwara. This was the one and only performance that UNFAK gave at a Gurdwara and it was a magical evening as his section finished at around 11.30pm and I should also add Zain & Zohaib's grandfather Rehmat Ali Khan Saab was on the second harmonium.

[Tell Him that] Without You, using bed sheets is like a sickness and like living as being wrapped by snakes. The pitcher is a thorn and the glass is a dagger which are like tolerating being butchered. Death bed with my Beloved is better than body burning [living with vice] without Him.

Amrita’s singing has emotional content, other guys are technical good but lack emotional content. It’s quite typical in classical singers. But overall good rendition.
