For a feral the cat seems very used to humans so I'd say he used to be someone's pet.

Jimi feral cat appears towards the end of the video, we have been working on him for over 5 years. Mittens' presence gives him courage, but he still runs away from us every single day outside. He rarely comes inside the house 😎
