Thanks Karen!! I've been waiting for you to arrive and didn't even know it! I have wanted this kind of information you give so freely here; all the skills, techniques, materials, everything you are covering. I feel like I have won the lottery!! I'm about to start a mixed media Journal/Life Story about myself and my son; a sort of self-examination, a Mea Culpa to my son and myself(and possibly any innocent bystanders along the way). So Thank You for giving me enough clarity and skillz to finally begin the process! My son died four and a half years ago and I've been thinking about this project since then. It's time! I bought a medium which can be added to acrylic paint to use as a spray without diluting the color which sometimes happens if you use just water. Edit great idea about using masking tape for negative painting. I recently watched a video where the artist used curved tape instead of plain masking tape. Made great circular designs. Now, I'm on the lookout for this kind of tape. With the fabric cover, you could have cut a piece of fabric larger than the book, then glued the excess to the inside of the covers to protect the edges.

I so need some of those bobbles lol, they are fabulous. Loved all the techniques you showed, I have used one or two of them in the past. Have you ever thought of using wallpaper, I know I have, you get some great ones for backgrounds and some cuties to cut out of others. A bit difficult to stick down cos it's so thick, but I use just ordinary white glue and never had a problem, plus you could make a whole journal out of wallpaper and use it for your art, and the best bit is, it's used to all the wet media and you can throw anything at it. Hi Elizabeth!! No, I haven't thought of that!! I'm not even sure how one would get their hands on some cheaply, do you buy it straight out? New? Or do you somehow have scraps leftover? It's been so long since I saw wall paper, i feel like it isn't used (hardly) any more, I'd love to try it!

@@KarenCampbellArtist Sorry I should have said, we can go into the large wallpaper stores (Like B & Q) and just tear off a selection, my hubby used to cringe, then he started taking scissors lol. I've had lots with butterflies on. Good luck with finding some. xo

Sometimes my "art" puts a whole new meaning to "junk journals" but now I'm going in and gesso, duct tape, mask tape, spray paint, etc and create some "Karen" inspired art pages. Love this series of videos but then again I'm a HUGE Awesome Art School fan/student. hugs

I’ve been struggling with the collage process and found that all purpose glue mixed with some water works better than the medium. A lot less expensive too, an added plus. My paper still warps even though I bought some 140 pound water colour paper. I’ll try the boards next.
