Mixed Reactions As Ooni Bans Market Associations, Introduces Price Ceiling On Selected Food Items

The leader of market heads in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Akinwande Olajire, has said Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, banned market groups in the town over their roles in current high cost of food items in the community.
A video of Olajire addressing traders in a neighbourhood market in Ile-Ife had gone viral on Saturday.
Olajire, who spoke in Yoruba language said Oba Ogunwusi had suspended market groups, as their activities have been fingered as the cause of high cost of food items.
He said groups of traders dealing in various food items have been involving in fixing cost of goods, even when they have bought the items cheaply from farms.

@larainbusinesslinks7931 you really need to understand how these associations work. If you don't join, they won't allow you sell. The requirement to join some of them is sometimes more than the total cost of what the person is selling

Politicians and the autorities are the source of this confusion. The right to associate is a freedom which the constitution guarantees. What the Ooni is trying to do is noble but he is in flagrance of the law. The question is if he is sued, will he be sent to jail by a Yoruba judge or is he bigger than the constitution? That is how useless the Nigerian constitution and Nigeria as a country are. Just sell the whole country to South Africa. The black West African are incapable of self rule.

With what you people are saying, you actually got it wrong this time. This your freedom of association is not needed now and Ile-Ife is under an Oba who the people can easily cry to and must have listening hears so as to assist his entire people. Morayo's argument is like insulting the Oba which is not good. An Hausa person will never react like that about their Emirs. Why then are we complaining about Agberos? Is it not because their type of unionism is affecting commuters? We should be careful how we dushonour our Obas by questioning their authority on national television. No matter your reasoning, you can never become Oyinbo, especially now that some Oyinbos are envying our tradition. We need to caution our mode of discussion, especially on the Yoruba Obas.
