I tried your recipe, it did work well, I did get some cracking so I added a teaspoon of glycerin, to your recipe. That completely eliminated any cracking. Thank you for sharing! Great tutorial, presented very well.

Glycerin is my go to for many things acrylic related. Good for you! ❤ Just use a few drops at a time until it goes the way that you want and know that it will extend the drying time, so keep that in mind as well.

Thanks so much for this! Thanks also to those who posted substitutions and suggestions for alterations! 🙏🏿 I’ve learned it’s a good idea to check KZfaq for DIY tutorials on high priced specialty craft supplies. _The Frugal Crafter_ and _AL John_ channels are must have channels for this. My latest score was a recipe for Wink of Stella pens. You can use water brushes for them or just keep the mixture in a small jar and apply it with a cheap paintbrush. The manufactured glitter pens start at $6 - $8 each in craft stores, but you can get one bottle or tube of iridescent medium for about $8-$10 to make your own and that one small container will probably last you a lifetime! You just add a few drops (use a pipette or dropper) to about one ounce (2 tablespoons) of water. Be careful not to make it too thick. If it’s too thick it won’t have the translucent sparkle you’re looking for. To improve the shelf life for your homemade glitter pens, it’s best to use distilled water or just be sure to make it in small batches, like the 1 ounce size. Like the texture paste, you can add color to them if you like.

In my experience, cornstarch creates a much wetter mixture than talc. That may be why this recipe needed more glue and no water to get the consistency you prefer. Thanks for your recipe and including these important details. 😊

Hi Sam. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I have made 3 different colours so far:- a Prussian Blue with glitter, a Metallic Lilac and a Green with glitter ✨. Hi From Down Under I just tried making your white embossing paste and I used the last of my Corn Flower it was approximately 1/4 Cup … lol … instead of Baby Powder as I can’t find the only small bottle I have from when I tried making paste yrs ago … and it worked perfectly funny I have 2 sets of those containers I was keeping die cut pieces for shaker cards in … lol … As I have the white and pink as well I used the white one for the white paste and I decided to try it with Baking soda too so used a pink box for that … lol … I just had enough white acrylic paint for the 2nd trial … lol … I had bought a cheap tacky glue which I had found to be too runny for normal use it worked great so I haven’t wasted the $4.99 AU on it lol … I wiped a little off my fingers of both pastes onto a scrap of white Cardstock to see how it dried they dried well the first one bubbled a little with my heat gun might have been holding it a little too close but it was smooth once dried albeit a few bubbles lol … so when I go shopping will buy some more cornflour and try making more with other colours of paint in my stash … lol … Funny I do have that large scraper already … lol … forgot I had it … lol … so Thanks for your KZfaq … love the coloured paste idea good thinking 99

Hi Sam, Thanks for sharing your recipe for embossing paste. It looked so easy that I had to give it a try. I couldn’t find any non-sented baby powder and used 100% corn starch instead. I had to add more powder and my paste isn’t as dry as yours but it works beautifully. I really love it.

This is brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing it! I usually start a new project expecting to have to try it a few times, but this worked great on the first try. And in case anyone in the US is reading this and curious about brands: I used Craft Essentials brand acrylic paint; Elmer's white school glue; Equate pure cornstarch baby powder (with aloe vera & vitamin E ... I couldn't find unscented). It did take quite a bit more baby powder than the recipe to get the same consistency, but it got there. And the color of the paste was several shades lighter than the paint in the bottle. Next time, I'll get paint a few shades darker than I want!

Thanks for this! I think if you're ever wanting to experiment to make a slightly more flexible paste... a bit more gel-like than chalky, I'd be inclined to try mixing in a bit of glycerine... and more importantly I'd try adding some Pledge/Future w. Finish Floor Polish (must be specifically that brand, and the type/formulation that is basically like pure liquid acrylic)... and if wanting to go even further in the gel direction & less paste-like, then I'd maybe try something in place of the cornstarch/talcum powder... or try mixing a blend maybe... with something that has more give & flexibility... like perhaps xanthan gum?? or maybe agar powder ground finely??.. dunno if those would work, but that's what I would try if wanting to experiment... (I suppose I'm also thinking about a Viva Decor Embossing Gel that I'd bought a whole tub of a while ago... only to have the whole thing dry out on me in seemingly no time flat! So not only am I trying to think of ways to revive it (if possible)... but also ways to perhaps make my own version and avoid spending so much money on a big store-bought tub of 'soon-to-be-pretty-paper-weight-in-a-jar'... lol)

Yay! DIY Embossing Paste - I hardly ever buy any because it is expensive for what it is! Any excuse for buying 'Johnson's Baby Powder' (I was an NNEB Nanny in a previous life and I wish Johnson's would make an air-freshner!) Sam - your recipe has more PVA glue in it than any I've ever tried. Selecting the right talcum powder is important. Your recipe looks perfect for a thiner application. I've used corn-starch (I prefer this for thickening sweet sauces and proper Sunday Roast gravy) before - it makes a more glossy paste. I don't dry emb. paste with a heat-gun unless I want a bubbly effect - I find it dries it out too quick and leads to sheading and cracking. But I'll try yours as it has more pva glue in it - which obviously makes it more pliable/less chalky. Tfs ~ C ~

I’ve just finished watching your recipe and read all the comments and learned a lot. This recipe looks real stiff and hard to spread so I was wondering if you added ink drops for color if that would loosen it up just enough to make spreading it easier. Also to make a glimmery paste if adding glitter would dry your recipe out too much, enough so you would have to add more liquid of some type? I love the glossy shine too paste too so does glycerin work with your ingredients? I’m sorry I have so many questions. Ha! I should try experimenting myself. Just wondered if since your original video you changed your recipe and how? Thanks for sharing your fun discovery.

*** Storage Tip- I use the same click and lock type containers and I found that if I turn them upside down to store they don't dry out nearly as fast. I think it's because the product falls to the "top" (which is actually the bottom), not allowing any more air to get in. Kind of like storing your 2 litre soda bottles upside down in the refrigerator... The soda around the cap doesn't allow the carbonation to sneak out and keeps your soda bubbly longer.
