Growing up in Italy, Irko was one of the early adopters of HipHop, DJing and producing beats out of a small home studio in his parents basement. In this interview, Irko tells us how how made his way from producing HipHop with U.S. soldiers stationed in Italy and $150 in his pocket, to working with the most sought after artists of our time. I’ve worked with Irko, this Italian talent, years ago... this man is just a legend in World’s discography, and it’s such a pleasure to see this interview with one of my all time heroes as Warren. Actually, In Italian 'Irko' is pronounced 'Ear-KO' .. which to the learned scholars of etymology, comes from the root meaning "To hit the earlobe in a boxing manner" .. Later, the english interpreted it as "I'll box your ears" and it was used to initiate fisticuffs.. But truly, The carrier of this name is predestined through folklore to be a mixing engineer who is likely to make chart topping songs. No mystery here folks - only science.

Great video! Would kill to just be the guy behind camera to listen to all this happening. Really interesting talk at the end, digital vs analog. The difference is no longer the sound but more how you approach and work through your sessions because with analog, you don't have tuning, no comping, no editing, no undos and redos, you have a limited number of tracks, etc. Guess this is another something that is possible to emulate in the digital world but that little punch in button will be very tempting when its staring right in front of you saying, "Do you really wanna redo everything for another hour when you can finish it in 5 minutes?"

Great story. And nice to see a slightly ( :-) ) different genre from straight pop or rock. There is a common thread to a lot of people's stories ... they went for it, no safety net, struggled for a number of years doing good work but unrecognised, always learning, listening, improving .. and then they break through. Guess we know what we have to do :-)

Hey Warren, next time you have trouble with unintentional distortion, check out Izotope de-clipper. It is A M A Z I N G. Now you know. In fact i even use it on the master, but don't tell anyone. It's a top secret, it works especially well on high frequency guitarsolos mixes that tend to distort your masters. It just catches those peaks if you set it up to do so. Heard so many heavy metal records with that annoying distortion/clipped sound@ the guitarsolosections lately that could have been fixed with that simple little trick!! It's crazy really. Try it! /Idiota

Now 95% mixing engineers and producers are killing every bit of what's left to be human and play good music. Just take a look at all this "instructional videos" ...each one has same H-delay sent in chorus that rings for a half hour. So cheese and unnatural production...And POP vocals...omg what a joke. All I am saying is this: no amount of plug ins, analog summing is going to help you if your song is not beautiful song played just thru acoustic guitar accompanied with a emotional singer.

It's sad. All this technology, knowledge information's and still music in last 15 years on main stream, or POP music, artists etc. sucks like never before in human history. It is truly fascinating that you have to go "underground" to hear some nice music, quality mix, emotions, soul. One song with 200 trucks,27 lines of vocals,46 overdubs...Well ....that's not it. Great song is great if played only on acoustic guitar. U can sum all 200 trucks plus all the plug ins of this world and Fairchild's ,if the song is not great song on just acoustic guitar with emotional "story teller"...your song still sucks like thousands of this mass production POP songs last decade. Give me Robert Plant and 2 violins and on old 4 channel recorder I am going to make you ROCK record that's going to leave you speechless. I'll take Adele and piano and make billions as well. Get the idea?..:
