Is it okay to use Apple cider vinegar as well?

I used to live in a hard water area, and my towels were really horribly scratchy on the skin. My mum suggested soaking them in diluted vinegar overnight, and then washing them normally in the washing machine with detergent mixed with vinegar. If I did this every couple of months, they softened up beautifully, and were like new. I think my washing machine lasted longer because the vinegar mix slowed down the build up of limescale in the machine and pipes.

I usually only use vinegar after washing with detergent like in the video as we have soft water here. But it is really interesting to hear that pre-soaking them too helped soften them up and made them feel like new. I think you are right that the vinegar helped clear out the limescale too. I wrote a bit about it a while back organizing.tv/how-to-remove-limescale-from-washing-machine/ . But I guess you don't need that anymore if you already moved.

I think he did an awesome job. I thought I remembered not to mix vinegar and baking soda. But I was in a hurry to do my laundry and wanted a quick answer to my question. Well I got just what I needed. I'm going to see if I can follow him because he didn't drag it out and take pauses for a minute or two while he loaded the washer. Plus he explained his laundry situation and maybe there's a video with the results of his final work. I really liked him!😅

Thank you so much this helped amazingly! I had once, about halve a year ago, forgotten my clothes in the washing machine for too long. Ever after that they have always had a very bad smell, despite me washing them almost weekly multiple times to get the smell out! I even bought Vanish oxi action specially for them, they are supposed to work on smell for clothes. That still didn’t get rid of the smell. Then i tried this, and it worked amazingly. My clothes finally smell amazing again. I was worried they would smell to vinegar but they really dont! I couldnt stop smelling them because of how fresh and nice they smelled. I used around 150 ml white vinegar the one I use for salads and such. Just kitchen vinegar. Has 4% thats why I used a bit more than you showed in the video. I am sooo happy as these are my most important clothes, my soft sleeping clothes i cant live without due to my skin problems!

Vinegar is the bomb! It cleans everything! If you want to quickly freshen up clothes , linens, or a stuffy room, spray a mixture of vinegar and water around 2 tablespoons per 1 cup of water. I keep a spray bottle of this mixture on hand.

I live in an area with hard water so I use vinegar in my laundry to soften and de-grease my clothes and I run it through my drip coffee-maker to remove the oils and limescale that can build up in both machines over time.

You know, a lot of companies like tide claim that their solution or detergent works at a specific pH level and adding baking soda or vinegar to make the washing detergent less effective because it changes pH. I've wondered if this is because they don't want to get replaced or if it's true..

Always love your videos. This is a great idea especially to separate the vinegar from fabric softener. I have bought a vinegar mix thats called 9 Elements which I have gotten the lemon sent. I believe they also have the fabric softener but I haven't bought that yet because this stuff is rather expensive here.

Thanks! I am glad to hear from you. 9 Elements detergent sounds like a great product. I'm interested in testing out their line of cleaning products myself sometime. It seems like they have a bunch of really interesting formulas.

@@Organizing-TV they have something of an outdoorsy - watery lemon juice type sent in my opinion. Not too bad in my opinion. I don't smell the vinegar at all. I am curious to see what you think of it when you try it out.

What if you don't have separate compartments? And it's funny because I actually asked to similar question that you addressed somewhat. About affecting the pH of the other products.

I am in the USA. I thought it was ok to use a little baking soda with my detergent. Arm and Hammer sells big bags here like in Costco, and on the package it says, makes your detergent more effective, but if you don’t think that, so, then I will stop doing that, but I will start adding vinegar to my rinse in my machine, but my water is pretty soft here in New Jersey where I live Depends on the water company and system, my towels come out very, very soft on their own in the dryer

I Love the idea. It would have to be a really basic detergent. Vinegar doesn’t react well with bleach though so I’m thinking a detergent with bleach included might be a bad combination.
@Organizing-TV

That is a good point! From my experience it has been fine as long as they are separated to different parts of the wash though

Europris sells "vinegar acid" 32% 1L bottles, more bang for the buck, and indo t know about you but i feel that the essence smells of vomit when combined with something alkaline.. Oh and letting vinegar toy around the machine for a whole cycle means you got 1,5-3 hours where the vinegar eats away on gaskets and the clothing's elastane. either soak in vinegar and rinse out beforehand, or i add a little bit into the softener compartnent :) I by the way, while searching if dishwashing liquid soaks could damage certain clotves was put agast when i see a thumbnail with a bottle of Zalo!

Genuine question, how does this work? Vinegar is acidic, laundry detergent is base. So you mix the two, they cancel each other out. Worst case scenario, like bleach, you make chlorine gas but I know many cleanrs who say mixing dish soap and vinegar just results in a neutral solution that doesn't do much. So wondering if this really works.
@Chris-yf2es
@Chris-yf2es 10 ай бұрын
The Vinegar was added in the fabric softener section. Once all the detergent has been used and washed away the vinegar is added because the vinegar was added in the fabric softener section. It's the same problem with adding fabric softener to detergent without the second compartment, it'll cancel out the detergent.

What is your stance on putting vinegar directly into the drum?
@Organizing-TV

I am all for it, just make sure to not mix it with the detergent in there :)

I put the vinegar and the pod detergent in the drum when I'm doing my husband's work (welder) clothes and the towels. I've never had an issue. The vinegar removed the bad odor and softened the fabric, especially the towels. It's also better on my wallet compared to the brand name fabric soften. Thanks for the baking soda tip! 😊

I don't think you should add the vinegar where it can mix with the detergent itself. Detergents usually use anionic surfactants, and are designed to work in a basic environment for that reason

How much vinegar per load??
@Organizing-TV
@Organizing-TV 18 күн бұрын
It really depends on how large a load you're using. You can start by using the same amount of vinegar as you used fabric softener in the past. I generally use up to 100 ml 5% on a large load
