Great review. Glad you emphasized several times "translation." I can't believe how many people review these headphones like audiophiles --- "it has a sweet high end and great bass." ARRGGG!! There is so much of that crap on KZfaq and reviews on all the sites that sell audio gear. Translation is priority #1 PERIOD. You get it. Thanks again.

I extensively compared the MM500 with the LCD-X and purchase the latter. The MM500 are lacking in bass/sub bass. Very apparent when listen to electronic music.
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 8 ай бұрын
Actually no - they don't lack, it's all there - the low end frequency range is complete, and all the way into sub frequencies (you can measure this), but it is turned down. So it's fully there - but reduced. You have to train your ears for it. That's the mixing trick Manny uses. That said, I use Realphones with MM500 (or an Amp with EQ), where you can simulate a stronger SUB - and it gets really thick. They react very well to this, and stay clean while boosting. No distortion at all.
@urbanman1516
@urbanman1516 8 ай бұрын
@@massivebeatzz Yeah, I don't really agree. Spent many hours critically comparing the two and it was obvious the LCD-X offers a proper full representation of the low end/subs without the need for EQ software. The 500's felt a bit like a guessing game in that department. Just too subdued. Like I said, I produce mostly electronic.

I think the Problem here is that the MM500 have a proper upper Midrange boost compared to the X. Maybe thats why you can’t hear the Sub Area less good. I think the X are the better choice. (in my humble opinion). Anyway, thanks for the Video.

I just want to use one earphone and don't want to be tired of switching devices all the time depending on the type of music. I listen to 80% classical and 20% jazz and pop. I have also seen the mm500 so far, and I think the instrument part is quite good, and the vocals are in the front, so the female voice sounds good. Do you recommend other headphones at this level? I think the sound field of the mm500 is okay. For classical music, the instrument tone is not too modified. , the low-frequency dive is enough for jazz. I don’t know if I understand this right?
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 3 ай бұрын
Yes - if you are an audiophile, you might like this headphone too, but keep in mind it is designed for mixing and mastering engineers to make our job easier. Reveal flaws, not over accentuate certain areas, or make things sound prettier. At the same time it is not designed to be extremely flat, because we need some help identifying problems. They also react very well to EQ and crossfeed (which is what I sue them with), and the results are stellar. I think you can't go wrong with these headphones - and it will come down to personal taste - with others in that price category. I am currently testing teh Heddphone TWO, so stand by for those results.

@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 10 ай бұрын
I appreciate that vm! With my trusted Realphones DsoniQ plugin yes - my low low end translates well. The MM500 have the capability to go really low, and don't distort, stay very detailed - but they are less pronounced in the lows. So you have to listen for it. Realphones with 8% Subwoofer emulation activated is the magic for me. Just a little bit - will make it easy to "feel" it. It really helps you understand how to control low end dynamics. That's the power of a Planar headphone.

In theory the MM's are easy to drive. But I must say, the SPL I tried them with sounded absolutely fantastic. Does it sound 5 x more fantastic than my Topping? No - and specs wise it shouldnt be that much better. Hard to put the finger on it, but I'd say the Topping product lines are great also, for a lot less money. Grace and Little Labs Monotor as well as NeveHeadphone amps are all pretty good as well. I'd go: SPL>Grace>Topping>Monotor etc. The RME Headphone amp of my Babyface Pro FS is also very good. Here's a Topping review, along with comparisons. This guy is really good at measuring stuff - www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/topping-dx3-pro-review-dac-headphone-amp.27148/

Does anybody have any experience with using these with the SPL amp’s crossfeed? And that vs Realphones? And both of those vs the headphones by themselves?
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz Жыл бұрын
I use Realphones as you may have seen. It sounds spectacular. I use just a tiny bit - not 100% correction and not 100% ambience - but about 0% to 30% on correction (depending on what I am checking) , and 15-40% ambient (room, so that is your crossfeed). It just extends the low end a bit more , while keeping it super clean, and make it more realistic to speakers. As for the SPL, when we tested at Larrabee, the crossfeed was turned off, but it sounded fantastic still - better than what my headphone amps are doing. On paper these headphones are easy to drive, but that combo is magic. Probably that is why Audeze likes to use them to demo things.

It is $1800 with tax and 2100 Euro - this isn't mid tier - that is pretty expensive. He also designed THIS headphone personally- why would he use a headphone someone else designed if he can do his own. He knows what he needs.The only other headphone from Audeze that is similar is the LCD5, which is more than 2x the price, and not necessarily better for pro mixing engineers. The LCDX and the 600 are great, I know them well, but nowhere near this.

the weight of these is soo dumb, are they really going for a pro market or a kind of fashion show, so much work they put into making lighter drivers and then they make a fckn steel frame. How do they think you can work on these entire day. It's impossible. Convincing and reassuring feeling. How about for a pro market to focus on having convincing sound and ergonomics. Don't get me wrong it sounds incredible, it's a godsend for m&m. But ffs, why make a fashion piece out of a working horse. So dumb
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 5 ай бұрын
It's not a working horse for an 8 hour session - it's the final 10% stuff - f. ex. I do some mastering work on them, and 1/2 hour is all I need. Then I take a break . No cans should be worn 8 hours a day - unless it's for some commercial application, builders, or radio hosts or such. Ears fatigue well before your neck muscles will.
