4 жыл бұрын

This is a collection of quotes from swordsman and philosopher, Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of Five Rings, and Dokkodo.
Learn more at: orionphilosophy.com/
Musashi was a Ronin in Japan from 1584 to 1645. He is probably the most famous swordsman from history with an undefeated 61-0 duelling record.
Not only was Musashi an excellent swordsman, he was also a writer and philosopher. His book, The Book of Five Rings, is still printed and read to this day.
Musashi's philosophy is one of self reliance, inner calm, acceptance, and discipline. His work is read all over the world to help people develop mental strength and the qualities needed for a resilient and happy life.

Not only that. Somehow it was mentioned historically that at an older age he fought in a war using a wooden training sword wtf.
@Y0uKnoWh0
@Y0uKnoWh0 3 жыл бұрын
@Pain Face You are right that the way it is being presented in these comments is likely made up. The closest thing I have found to the truth regarding Musashi using a wooden sword is that he once faced an opponent in a duel who used an extremely long nodachi as his preferred weapon (japanese long sword with a long hilt, typically used to dismount horsemen). In that duel, Musashi wanted a weapon that could outrange Kojiro's Nodachi, so Musashi cut the oar from the boat he arrived in into a crude training sword that was about 4 inches longer than a traditional Nodachi. His opponent was not expecting it and Musashi landed the first blow which broke several of his opponents ribs and punctured his lung, taking him out of the fight. Kojiro was a renowned swordsman, so this was probably the only way Musashi could win and live without taking greivous injuries of his own. I have not seen any accounts of Musashi going into war with a wooden sword. I think most of those tales are people mis-reading this duel, or assuming that he always fought like that. Some accounts say that Musashi's first strike crushed Kojiro's skull, but either way it was a one time thing. Musashi carried steel into battle 99.9% of the time.

@@ericwalker6546 I wouldn't say all. I wouldn't even say majority. There's a reason Musashi stands out, because he LIVED and BREATHED these teachings. Many people simply spoke it but walked the path of ego in disguise. Kind of like modern day religious figures. They can recite every line in the bible, but as soon as something goes wrong... every teaching is out the window. Edit: Look up modern day "Jerusalem church chair war". I’ve was training in Escrima with one or two stick for years before I started Shotokan. Japanese BUDO led me to Musashi. So it was natural for me two train with two swords. I will never fight a sword battle with multiple attackers. I hope not. But it’s still training. And not at all easy to do. Both independent to each other. Or together as one. In Shotokan I started for a lot of reason. But one thing that really showed the structure of Shotokan is. WHAT WE DO ON THE RIGHT WE DOON THE LEFT AS WELL.That was very critical for me. For as habit I favored my left hand stance than my right. Shotokan got me out of that. Left right doesn’t matter. I study Aikido now as well. And a instructor informed me that. “ THERE ARE NO LEFT HAND SWORDSMAN”. He might as well said. There are NO BLACK SWORDSMAN. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I was like ok. Whatever. Why would you limit yourself n such way. Life or death. No cares if YOYR right handed or left handed. I just basically ignored it. Not after reading Go Rin No Sho. Which took my martial training to a universal spiritual physical journey. And never looked back. There is just something so free, so lively,so real, as our training and journey in martial arts. My challenges is not how many opponent I can conquer. My challenge is. How can I conquer myself. N

Living in my car, intermittent fasting most of the day due to extreme poverty. A lot of these lessons, I'm learning due to the friction of life. Very grateful to have discovered for myself the works of Musashi. True Mastery is a form of Art holds countless lessons, or something I ain't him lol Cheers !

@@andyappleton3353 I couldn't agree more , but it's weird this gets crammed into my head by everyone and I'm forced to accept it, and others often seem to mention it if I don't......., but when I do the same to say .... multiple people or family or the masses it's ironic they literally can't handle it , (I'm thinking about work or making $ at the moment which is obviously important but there are other ex's too) lol! It's so weird how nothing is what it seems these days, on or with social media especially.
