David, Another great review. Good to know you are getting some recognition from distilleries and your reputation is worth more than a single bottle. Even if "Not by much" too funny ! I agree, Barrell has put out so many offerings. So much so that they have me scratching my head when I'm in the store trying to decide which finish I want to try first. So I end up not buying anything from them. I do have a Stellum store pick that is better than I had expected. Now I hear they are discontinuing the Stellum line up. My guess is that they want to stick to blending and not having a basic standard bourbon and rye offering. I figured... no great loss, there are a lot of MGP sourced products out there to fill the void if they are serious about dropping the line. Keep them coming. D

Hey Dana! Instead of the "final rating" or decision made on reviews, especially for Barrell products, people will need to pay attention to the nose and tasting notes to see if the Barrell product in question is right for them. I believe Barrell also noticed that they were doing too much and are now deciding to pull back by selling barrels and their new rickhouse. I think it's a wise decision and with how well they blend whiskeys, I'm positive we'll see some great products (but not as many) in 2025! I truly appreciate all your support and kindness! I’ve only had one Barrell item and it was very good. Think it was the Vantage. This caught my eye at Full Proof but I’m working on depleting some bottles.

Hey Jim! Yeah, one of the issues with Barrell is that they have so many products and similar ones. This one is so similar to the Vantage that even though I have both, it is hard to justify buying both at these prices. But if you do run out of the Vantage, this one would be a great one to pick up at Hi Proof as they have the best price 😆. I got a chance to try and really liked it but I don’t see that in my area. For me it wasn’t worth paying $100 with shipping included. You always give a great review

This one is tempting. I have their Amburana and Batch 35 and love both. Only fail to me has been Armida. Haven’t seen Mizunara yet near me but will be looking out. Cheers David, keep up the great content

I am fortunate enough to have 3 different Barrell bottles. I got my Mizunara bottle for $89.99 and am very happy with it. I like it as a neat dessert pour after a nice dinner. I agree with your notes: very peachy and creamy. Wonderful way to end a meal! I really enjoy the Vantage too, but consume it differently. The added spiciness makes it a good rainy night pour when its chilly outside. I also enjoy the 100 proof Foundations ---- makes a great Old Fashioned! Nice review David!

Agree with you on not backing up barrell products. They have so many that are so similar. None are bad but nothing is worth getting more than one. As for the mizunara. Im definitely going to have to crack mine this weekend. It sounds delicious!

Hey Dave! Barrell always produces good stuff and all of their offerings are blended well with unique traits. But it seems the Bourbon crowd got "overwhelmed" with so many releases the past year or so as many people are saying that they have so many choices, they don't know what to get. But with how good their products are, I'm sure they'll make the right decisions to right the ship and make some great whiskeys! It is a great bottle to have especially if you never tried any Mizunara finished bourbons as this one is really affordable compared to other brands (and probably just as good but can't say for sure as I haven't had them 😆). I have too many Barrell bottles lol, I really like their releases. So far, Seagrass and Amburana are my favorites and tend to win blinds (more than Mizunara and Vantage). The Mizunara stuff is good, but once in a while it kinda has a soapy taste for me (I think it's just a daily palette variability thing).

I can see how that "coconut water" note I got can feel soapy from time to time. But that seagrass is a winner and probably my favorite barrell whiskey 😆. Hope you had a fantastic weekend and cheers ~

I agree that you should never stock Barrel offerings especially if you live near a Total Wine. Their stuff just sits on shelves and you can get it on sale from there. Now regarding Mizunara it may be a rare wood but in the Whiskey world you see it a lot sometimes I see it on so whiskeys. It just seems like a marketing ploy to charge extra.

Hey Dean! It is a marketing ploy to a certain extent but the wood does give off different nose and tasting notes, like just how American Oak, French Oak, and especially Amburana oak can vastly change the profile of any whiskey. If you do try any Mizunara finishes, this is probably the one to get! Have a wonderful weekend and cheers~

미즈나라피니쉬 버번이라니! 무슨 맛일지 너무 궁금해요. UOT에서 Barrell 어서 빨리 한국에도 정식출시해줬으면 좋겠습니다!! 교수님~ 영상보다가 갑자기 든 생각인데 Barrel King 제품들 드셔보셨을까요? 여기도 다양하게 blending,finishing을 하더라구요. 특이하게도 membership으로 판매하는거 같더라구요.

Has anyone tried armida $80, foundation is $60. near me. What would you try. Just tried pinhook rye for $35 is a steal, bread spice, cinnamon, oak and quaffable. Keep up the good work. I haven't had pikesville yet. Soon. We talked about that before.

If I had to choose between the two, it would be Armida from $20 more. Sweet, fruity, and the rum influence is minor on that one, but if you don't like rum, then I would get the foundation. I have not had a Pinhook Rye before, maybe it's time to change that 😆. Hope that helps and have a fantastic day!

I can tell you that barrell foundations is crushable. A little expensive at 60 but it’s very good quality. Armida is one of the few I’ve never tasted so I can’t help you there. Pikesville is a fantastic rye for those (like me) that like the sweeter more bourbon centric barely legal Kentucky ryes. It’s a great proof point at 110 and I think goes for 55$ near me in NY.
