@@souldeep808Noise Gates. Volume holes in the sound triggered by a 16th of a note by putting a threshold on a certain volume. Everything which comes below that volume, is filtered out.

@@mennoshouseofmusic1214not exactly. A gate in this context is basically like a trigger signal, its a short little burst of voltage. Normally it would come from a keyboard whenever you hold down a key in order to tell the synth when to play a note and for how long. In this case its coming from the doctor click which is putting out a gate every 16th note. That gate goes to the envelope generator which controls the synths amplifier, turning the volume up and down based on a specific curve that you set (in this case short and plucky) every time it gets a gate signal.

As a 13-year-old kid in a band I jumped on a bus to go across town with my keyboard player and see a demo of ARP synths including the 2600. We expected to be at the back of a crowd peering over heads. Instead, for over an hour, we were the only people there. What a blast.

Some amazing patch ideas there that i never thought of This is so cool man i love sound design and ive been loving thriller for over 2 decades now without realizing how much sound design went into the making of it, i always knew it was a masterpiece but its so interesting to be able to hear about it from the guys who made it all happen themselves. Especially now that i have my own love of synths, samplers, and drum machines its great to understand the thought process that the greats before me used. It gets me inspired to think differently when im cooking up nowadays. So so cool, best series on youtube hands down!
