Little Bear tells a story like Grandpa Simpson did: "“We can’t bust heads like we used to-but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don’t go anywhere like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.”

Ronnie reminds me of the Mattie Ross character in the Cohen Bros version of True Grit. She goes after the guy who owned the livery stable from where her late father's horse was stolen. She threatened to slap him with a "Writ of Repliven" for the loss of her father's goods. The difference of course is a "Writ of Replevin" is a real thing. (a procedure whereby seized goods may be provisionally restored to their owner pending the outcome of an action to determine the rights of the parties concerned.)

Here's an idea. I've been watching outdoor shows from Alaska . When the northern part of the state has a problem with a pesky bear, one that thinks he's smarter than any one, they set a trap. The trap is usually made of a large, 4 foot in diameter, drain pipe, about 10 feet long. They close off one end and build a trap door on the other end. They place a bait, no bear can resist, inside. In this case it's a brand new 11th edition, Black Law Dictionary. The smarty pants bear grabs the bait and "Bob's your uncle, the bear is trapped. Then they drive the bear miles and miles into the forest until they are sure the bear kind find it's way back to civilization. Then they turn him loose. To keep, the bear from jumping into the truck, they honk the horn real loud. Somtimes they shoot the bear with a bean bag to make him afraid of people. Then the officers drive home. That seems reasonable to me. Thanks, Jerry

I have noticed more videos of Sovs trying more intimidation tactics. Such as telling police they have a hand gun holster on their belt. The recent moor sov cits with all the semi automatic rifles sitting on their laps in the cars being one of them. My only police work was as militsya in the 1990s. When our police force was still a branch of the military and most or all were like me serving military officers or privates transferred to that branch. Our training and tactics being stern brisk authority. So American civilian police seem lax and weak by comparison. Meaning I tend to see the treatment of Sovs as encouraging them to believe they are getting somewhere. Engaging and talking with them as if anything they say has even the least basis in reality. I accept my background has led to an authoritarian viewpoint. But still believe a strict autoritative response should always be applied to any Sov the instant they reveal themselves. Let them choose to run head first into a brick wall of reality. Rather than as the police seem to do now which is pad the wall with bubble wrap. Calm de-escalation is for people in high emotional states having difficulty in acting reasonably. When you are with Sovs actually dealing with people THREATENING escalation to violence. Setting violent dogs on people, using children as human shields or even just filing fraudulent legal documents as harassment. The behaviour of police just makes smug crazies like this guy think he has the upper hand.

Indeed ... Although my background is non-military, and not even as a First Responder (bad eyesight), I have done as much a civilian can train in First Aid, within the confines of a workplace, which iirc, three intensive 9hr days, plus a fourth for all students to rotate through a exam (with an unknown 'casualty'). Very often, as our trainer explained, in both the casualty, and you, are facing a high adrenaline situation. Being calm, but forceful, not only helps the casualty, but keeps you focused, especially when this is not your day job. Also, asking clear, direct, questions, keeps the casualty focused, especially in a case where consciousness (?) maybe compromised, especially in a case of a neurological injury, hypothermia, shock, etc. One of my favourite scenes of a 'Medic' in action, was the Naval Corpseman, whom treated Tom Hank's 'Captain Phillips' (of the same name), just after his rescue. Apparently, the corpsman was an actual one in real life, and she actually got nervous the first couple of takes. Tom took her to one side, calmed her down, and told her to just act like she was treating any other person she ever had, and he would follow her lead. Rumours abounded that she left the USN, because of mockery (no idea why), but, once I get my recertification, once this SARS-CoV-2 mess is over, I can only hope to have ¹/10th her skill level ... [Edit: Long story, if I may ... I live in South-West London, England, 15 min walk from Twickenham Stadium, the home of English Rugby Union (just think American Football, minus all the protective gear). Like over there, we do have Army vs Navy matches, which means the streets get pretty packed, especially every single bar, within 15 -20min walking distance. But, if it weren't for the crowded streets, it is always the one night where local crime almost plummets to near zero. Not only do you have the London's Metropolitan Police, out in force (along with a troop of mounted officers --- and no, they don't mind you petting their horse, so long as you ask first ...), but also the UK's Army Police (aka Red Caps aka the Army's Most Hated Branch), but the Navy's own Police (can't remember if US's version is SP or MaA ...), all also in strength. I don't know what jurisdiction the latter two did have, especially when dealing with civilians, but suffice to say, if a bar brawl did breakout ... ... but, since moving here in 2003, I can't remember a single, serious, incident, where you had sirens screaming the place down ...]
