He was a poor boy from a bootleggers’ town in the Texas backwoods. She was a cotton-picking Mississippi girl dreaming of stardom in Nashville. Together, George Jones and Tammy Wynette became the first power couple in country music. They were perfect in the public eye, but their tumultuous relationship was punctuated by George’s alcohol-fueled escapades and his paranoia over Tammy’s romantic past. She tried to keep the marriage from turning toxic, singing “Stand By Your Man,” her greatest hit, onstage with her husband every night.

One point to take away from this series: The Sixties/Seventies rockers may have done some crazy stuff. The Seventies/Eighties punks may have done some crazy stuff. But absolutely no one ever beat the country and funk guys for doing crazy stuff. A combination of being tough guys from mean little armpit towns or from the mean streets, of dire poverty suddenly come into money (but not always), of tough guy gun culture, plus women, plus alcohol, plus speed, plus No Sleep At All made for some true Bad Craziness to outstrip anything Hunter S. Thompson ever did or wrote about.

Lol, no! The stories I've heard would blow you away with Rock and roll to Punk. Heck, there is a ton in Jazz alone. Just read up on the Doors and Led Zeppelin for two examples.

@leighfoulkes7297 Only Jim was crazy in the Doors. Just finished Robby's autobiography and he reveals a lot of those stories were exaggerated. Zeppelin though... hard to out crazy them. Now if you really wanna see some shit-your-pants craziness, Poison Idea is your band.
