Welcome to the SPOOLIN UP channel.
In this video I install a boost gauge to my MK4 GOLF GTI 1.8T.
This installation is something that I was dreading but in the end it turned out to be quite an enjoyable job.
This is a nice and cheap install that also happens to be quite easy and although it's a gimmick it may help you diagnose your car if there are any future issues with boosting.
The only drawback about this particular setup is that at night time when the lights are on and the gauge is illuminated they reflect in the drivers side window which then limits view in the door mirror.
Thanks for visiting the channel, I hope you can take something positive from the content. Feel free to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE ; )

Not only have I found a boost gauge path. I'll also use this for my sub. I've had 3 golf's and always fitted the sub throught the wiring harness gromit. Thank you so much

You are welcome, what is it like fitting a sub? I can't have one because I've done the rear seat delete but I might decide to reverse that in the future and fit a sub.

Sorry mate, meant to reply last night. So I've fitted the same gauge as this one to mine. I bought 3m of black silicon hose because the stuff that came with the kit is really thin and was worried about it collapsing under vacuum. 3m was just enough with using a small bit to tee off the top of the diverter valve. I routed it pretty much the same as you have, threading it through past the centre console was a bitch though 😂 I ended up using a bit of twin and earth offcut with the insulation cut off enough to slide the inner cables into the end of the vacuum hose, which held it nicely, but I cable tied it tight too. Wiring wise, I was going to wire it to the lights, but couldn't see the gauge without the lights on. So what I did, and the wires are just the right length for this, is hook them up to the relay box just above the pedals. I could've (should've) crimped a ring terminal on the ends of the wires, but I just stripped a fair amount of insulation off the ends, then looped them round the relevant posts (one for switched live, one for earth) then clamped them on there using the existing nuts. My vent mount was just a laser cut acrylic one off ebay. And tbh, it does the job, and doesn't look too shabby. Just doesn't have that OEM look that your one does. Oh yeah, and because I used the original vent surround, my gauge doesn't quite sit back flush either.

Sweeeet man im glad to hear it all worked out for you! I too saw those acrylic gauge vent holders on ebay and the likes. Its nice to have the gauge fitted as it makes a difference to your interior. I may take mine apart and go a bit more thorough with the wiring one day but I'm not too fussed about it and it works well. What gauge did you use in the end? I dont think the installation is a bad job at all, just requires a little patience and then its easily done. I need to crack on with the next jobs now, shame it gets dark so early because it limits the time we can spend on our cars. Hopefully one day we see higher boost readings on our gauges 👀

Hi, it should be a grey wire with a blue stripe on it. If you want to check first you can push the wire into the connector if you don't want to cut it, strip it and join it.

@welshy4638

He's right, tapping into the fuel regulator vacuum pipe won't show fuel pressure on your gauge. You can also tap into the 6mm hose that connects to the top of the diverter valve. For this you'll also need a 6mm to 4mm hose connector, a 6mm t-piece and a bit of 6mm hose. Just half finished putting the same gauge in my MK1 SEAT Leon Cupra 180. I looked at those vent pods from Awesome, not cheap. but found someone who 3D prints just the vents for a 52mm gauge for £12 on fleabay. Just waiting on that and then I can finish it off. Went out for a test and it peaks at 20psi then tails of to 18psi. Which is nice. I came here looking for which wire to go for and it's the same grey one. As VAG don't mind scrounging from the same parts bin. The SEAT also uses the AUDI A3 8L dashboard. Cheers for the assist Naz, you've earned another sub.

Hi mate, nice one. I have now done the engine bay deletes and I have plumbed my boost gauge into the vacuum for the diverter instead of the fuel pressure regulator. I originally had it in the FPR because it was easy to find and cut into. I wanted to go for the reducing 6-4mm hose. I noticed no difference so its all since changing it all after deleting the combi valve so its deffo good either way 👍🏽 Sweet mate im glad you found a cheaper alternative to fitting the gauge pod because £70 from awesomegti is too much. It will be wicked once you get it finished off man. You get a nice bit of extra boost too with your AUQ! I'm jealous haha. Did you take the time to join the wires properly? I didnt have the patience and it has been fine the whole time. Yea its great to be able to get loads of bits from different VAG cars too man. Good luck with the car man, glad it has worked out well for you, thanks for coming to watch the video man and thanks for the sub mate, means a lot.

@@SPOOLINUP No I bodged the wire in like you and just put some electrical tape around the wires to hold it in place lol. I did exactly the same to last Cupra I had and it lasted till now, I presume. I sold it and bought an ST170 last year. Same with the Creation Motorsport TIP and boost hose kit it had on. Perfectly fine after 5 years. Got bored with NA and bought another Cupra, 78000 miles and bog standard. Now I have to remember how I did everything last time. i was going to keep it standard, that lasted a week lol. I've got the blanking plate and end caps here just waiting on some silicone hose and I'll be doing all the deletes. I was watching your TIP install video. Yep they're a ball ache. Seeing as you got the 80mm one, you should get a 3" MAF for a BAM engine. Then you only need a front mount and you're ready for stage 2. I'm just debating whether I can be bothered to fit The TIP and other hoses while it's -3c outside. Probably not lol
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 3 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah its a bodge for sure but its an acceptable bodge in my eyes as it still works and was sturdy. Ahh I see so you have been here before with the 1.8t, owning one for 5 years and then coming back to ownership again means you must have liked the car. The Cupras are a better spec in my opinion and rarer so they are pretty cool. I like ST170s too man they are rare now if you are taking about the MK1 Focus. If you use the ultimate diy delete thread online its so good for the SAI, PCV, N249, EVAP deletes and catch can install, I did mine two weeks ago, recorded a video of it too but just waiting to upload it once it is ready. Yes the tip install was not the easiest and I got frustrated and stopped filming some of it because I was annoyed. I wish I could do that video again. Yes I will be going for a front mount, larger injectors, coils and then mapping. It supposed to be getting warmer man, just wait a week or two, cant be holding frozen tools mate, sucks the heat out of your fingers to the bone Hahaha.

@@SPOOLINUP If I had ant sense I'd wait, but I'm too impatient. Especially when it comes to go faster bits. I've ordered an 80mm TIP, hot side silicone hose and the cold side diverter kit from Creation. The intercooler, 3' MAF and de-cat next month and then get it remapped. I should of got the suspension, wheels and tyres first, but POWER!! Problem I have now is either my N75 valve is on it's way out or the stock DV. It goes into limp mode and leaves me with 5PSI of boost. Hopefully it's the diverter valve as my new one just arrived.

Hahaha I love it mate you are a savage ordering all of those bits straight away! Your car will be mapped before mine. Is it stage 1 you will be getting it mapped for? Is a stage 1 map with it? I've debated it. Just get all of the expensive bits out of the way and forget you spent the money hahaha. At least these cars are cheap to mod and like we said before loads of parts floating around. I had the limp mode boost problem and my N75 was knackered man.
