This video explains and demonstrates the reasons why you need to do your research before committing to a car modification.
Lowering a Mk4 Volkswagen Golf is an easy enough job but unfortunately it is not without its complications.
If the car has been lowered more than 40/50mm then you may experience contact between the front anti-roll bar and the driveshaft. The easiest and simplest way to solve this issue is by fitting an alternative anti-roll bar for example one from a Mk1 Audi TT is a straight swap.

Thanks for the info and showing it fitted. Ive got one on order for my jetta. $99 bucks is alot more sensible than $350+ for Hotchkis! Nice ride btw!

I dont blame you getting somone to do this job. I had to replace my subframe on the floor yesterday just using Jack stands Was a faff getting it back in with no one holding it. Good shout using the audi tt bar btw !

Yeah man, honestly just for speed and access a ramp is so much better. I feel for you doing that job on the floor mate, I know what it is like. TT ARB isn't the best but you need decent links with it.

So I literally checked this the other day, someone said that you have to space them between the link and the wishbone to get them to set right. I am not sure what size spacer and if this equals needing longer bolts also 🤔

Sup dude your videos have helped a ton with installing coilovers on mk4 myself the past couple days but im running into same issue with the arb hitting the driveshafts, I have the same jom adjustable links as you and im getting close to being back to factory ride height (slight exaggeration) and still lots of contact. just wondering if you could help me out and let me know if you got on better with the links extended or with them shortened? seems a few mixed opinions on that and i cant quit wrap my head around it myself. cheers

Yo man, sorry for the late replies. In my mind when the car is lower the ARB is brought closer to the driveshaft so I tried to extend the ARB links to bring it further away. I got annoyed in the end and got a TT anti roll bar fitted instead which goes under the drive shaft. The TT ARB works well but you kind of have to force the links onto it from your wishbones so it wears them out fast. The best thing I think is to have coilovers with tabs to fit the ARB links to them and then use a TT anti roll bar so pretty much the front set up similar to a TT. I hope this helps mate. You can get a TT ARB or a Mk4 R32 one, I believe both fit and I think the R32 one may be a little thicker (stiffer) but not 100% sure.

I was under the impression that if I kept the standard ARB it would work with adjustable links but it didn't. I just used the adjustable JOM ones I bought with the TT ARB but they arent the best. I've seen people rub the standard links with the TT ARB but they require being forced on kind of because they arent a perfect fit.

I’ve just got my TT arb ready for when I purchase coilovers… did you get new bushings for the arb? If so what size did you go for please?
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 25 күн бұрын
Firstly, can I ask what coilovers you are going to buy? I didn't replace the bushes to be honest mate, I just straight swapped it. I have now bought big looped H&R anti roll bars made for lowered Golfs. This is a better option to be honest mate. TT ARB works but it's a bit of a bodge in my eyes to be honest its not the best but you will get by.

@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on how low you want to go. Normally it's said that the driveshaft scrapes on the anti roll bar if you go lower than 40mm/45mm. I experienced this and it sounds/feels horrible. I would recommend an aftermarket bigger looped anti roll bar for lowered mk4 golfs. I will be upgrading mine

Damn I cant remember whether that part is facing up or down but I'm sure it would only work one way. The Anti Roll bar should slide under the driveshafts once it is fitted. You are welcome to the help.

Hello mate! Love the videos!! Just wanna give you heads up about the TT roll bar, if you don’t know already, it’s probably a good idea to get TT drop links as the Golf drop links will be twisted on a weird angle and could break. Changed my bigger looped roll bar for the TT ARB today and came across this issue!! Love your videos bro 🤙🏼
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks a lot!! Appreciate you coming along and commenting, especially with positivity. The TT anti-roll bar feels like a bodge and I am currently looking at a larger looped one because it looks like its constantly under tension and it is not natural. I guess maybe I shouldn't go for a bigger looped one? The TT arb links I don't think fit my coilovers! I bought aftermarket adjustable ones but its still not right really. Let me know how it all goes with you, I have a bit of a knock on one side sometimes! Again thanks for coming along and watching. Top man 👊🏾👊🏾🙏🏾

@@SPOOLINUP yeh it’s pretty sketchy! My coilovers have the connection for the TT drop links. Not sure if you could get the connection welded on to your coilovers? Might be something to look into. The bigger looped ARB was nothing but issues for me, no matter how high/low the coilovers were, it would still rub. And it started to rub just on flat roads, so had to swap it out! Other things to try could be R32 ARB, or thinner aftermarket driveshaft? Some people just take it out but I don’t trust that haha. Cheers bro! Keep up the videos!!
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 3 жыл бұрын
Yes actually someone made a thread about welding that on to them and I have a few bits and bobs I need to drop to a guy who does fabrication, bodywork and spraying etc so maybe he could even it it and that would solve a lot of problems. I also don't trust removing the ARB, you know people also notch the chassis too dont they when going to the floor lol. You just have to make it work whatever way works best. That scraping noise is horrendous as well 🤣 Again thanks for coming along and letting me know how you have overcome the problem and reminding me to sort mine out. Videos will continue on due course 👊🏾👊🏾

@@SPOOLINUP no worries man!! I’ve learnt a lot from your videos, as well as countless forums haha. You’re doing basically the same things I’m doing so it’s always good to be able to help someone out! How did you get your r32 rep bumper to match up nicely to the front wings?
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikehayes2560 I'm glad they have helped you mate, thats what they are there for you know. The Gti is a great car to mess around with and I love mine. The R32 rep bumper I fitted incorrectly originally because I never slid the sides into place so they were sitting on top of the runners. I have a runner/guide to replace that is fixed to the wing and I am still waiting for spacers to make the bumper line up better to the inner arches. Someone commented and told me how to get the bumper to fit better and I was so happy. A little bit of help, a little advice and a nudge in the right direction can make a huge difference

Yooo bro, how’s it been since it’s been fitted? How far do you think you’ve managed to lower it and have you had experience with engine raiders
@SPOOLINUP
@SPOOLINUP 2 жыл бұрын
Yo man!! Its been alright to be fair because it has stopped everything from coming in to contact. The only problem is that if you cant use TT ARB links then you kind of have to force the Golf ones to work. What I mean is that when stock the ARB links go from the ARB to wishbone which works with the standard Golf ARB. If you use a TT ARB and Golf links then it isn't designed for that so you kind of have to force it to fit together and work. If you have coilovers with a bracket on the strut to attach TT ARB links from the ARB to the coilover then that is perfect as its how it was designed. I am not actually too sure how much I have lowered it but I definitely need to adjust it to make it all even and I have no experience with engine raisers...yet! Hope that answers your questions well mate. 👊🏾 sorry for the essay when you may already know that stuff 🤣

I have a MK1 TT anti roll bar which works ok but puts a lot of stress and tension on the drop links and something has started to knock which I suspect is the links.
