This is how you can install a euro headlight switch into your vw gti. Switch bought on ebay and trigger wire at local dealer, part: 000-979-009-E. not sure if this part number will be the same in the U.S.
Install was quick and easy, now I have control over all the lights for the car. I can turn just the park lights, park lights with fogs or all lights. I had already disabled the DRL via vag com.

Awesome video! I think I'm definitely comfortable with the installation thanks to your video but I have a question about the vagcom. If I don't mind keeping the DRL's always on, do you need the vagcom at all for this process? Do I have to disable the DRL's to operate the rear parking lights independently?

thanks man! glad it has helped you out. No you are not required to disable your DRL's in order to add this euro switch. In your case you will have your headlights on at all times but you can turn your park lights independently as well as your fogs.

Randy Grenier you can use vag com to disable them. older models you could bend the pin from the main harness but I don't know if you can do the same with any new model.

You can pull the light switch 2 times for the front fogs and the rear fog light/lights

It should be yes, I have read that you would want a switch without front fogs however, since you have LED drl not fogs. I will see if I can find a link and or how to for the R.

Esqu3l3to ok, my led drls are in the place where fogs are. I guess I just considered those fogs. I want a switch to where I can just run my park lights and not my headlights. Thanks for your help.

Hey I just got new led headlights for my gti but the drls only come on when having the switch to the on position. Will this make it where my drls will come on with having the low beams on, thank you

bro, if it selected in auto mode and open from outside will the headlight opened automatically without start the ignition !?

Yes, If you installed a light sensor for the auto lights they will come on when it senses low light.

I did everything you just did except disable DRL’s. It didn’t work and my fog lights weren’t working. i put everything back together the way it was and it’s still not working. any suggestions??!!

Thats odd, same year golf/gti? Did you by chance have your high beams on...when highs are on it does nit allow for your fogs to be on.

yes it will work for your MK5 Jetta as well, from what I have read your model is plug & play. No added wiring required. Not sure if you will want to disable your DRL like I did which you will need VCDS (vag com) to do so.

Pin #3 is where the yellow wire goes on the switch?

Correct, pin on the switch side and pin 19 on the harness under the dash.

Basically you need the same style switch that I have except of course that will fit your year. You might need to run a wire to activate park lights as I did.

You don't have to do that, I wanted to. I like having control of when I have my headlights are on, with this switch i can have no lights, park lights, park and for then all lights on. I simply dont like DRL but its not necessary to dissable them.

i thought the yellow wire was just for the rear fog lights. i have the same switch and i don't have the wire installed, and the lights work just fine, except my rear fog lights come on with the front as well, no matter how far i pull the switch for the fog lights. i can't get them to turn on separately.

+ThisIsIrrelevant in this case it was just for the park lights as it already was setup for front fogs. For rear fogs there is another cable you need to connect to activate. I don't know if you can only activate them one at a time.

***** that model switch should have two detents that you can pull it to, to activate the front first and then the rear. mine doesn't do that though :/

that's true, they should have made it that way. Not sure if anyone makes a switch that way, it would be a good idea.

You mean use the fog lights are the drl or? You can set it up that way. I dissabled my drl as I just don't like them at all.

Should be the exact same, as your would already be wired for the DRL

Remove the switch and check for any missing pins/wires. It will likely need it like mine but you never know.

No you dont need to disable your DRLs for this. I did because I don't like them and I want full control of all my lights. The wire you can find at a local vw dealer or online with part number 000-979-009-E.

The two connectors on the harnesses have a groove/slider to hold them together. You need to slide them back the same way. Ot can be a PITA but it can be done.

that is correct, you are able to use rear fogs with this switch. as for wiring I do believe you would need a wire similar to the park lights and even coding.

+Keith Nuñez Yes, you would need a CANBUS VAG-com to code the car to work with rear fogs, and of course have taillights that have them to use. Yes it is possible, you can use fog with park light without turning on your headlights. Did you install the trigger wire for the park lights?

@@esqu3l3to did not run the wire yet, but when I set to PARK LIGHT and fog light on, the fog lights do not turn on at all, only turn on when its on LOW beam setting with fog lights, do you think if I run the wire to control the parking individual, then the fog lights will turn on also?

No the park wire is for you to control the park lights independently from the headlights. Did you pull the headlight switch out for the fogs to turn on? I bought the euro switch not sure of you got a different one

Hmmmm...the only othee different thing I did was to disable my drl. Maybe it does need the park wire installed for the fogs to work
