It's perfect for a smaller room like a bedroom to have it constantly running on night mode. Thanks to the app (and also just smelling) I notice an improvement in air quality. So yeah, especially their purifiers is a jack of all trades, master of none.

How can one like their vacuum cleaners? 1. They last only a few minutes on max power until you have to recharge them. 2. They are heavy. However, this goes hand-in-hand with the short battery usage, so most people won't notice. 3. As mentioned, you can use them only for a short time, so they only make sense for small apartements. 4. They are absolutley weak compared to ANY vacuum cleaner powered with a cable I had. Total disaster. I never used them again.

Fun fact: James Dyson tried over 5000 different prototypes of a bagless vacuum cleaner before getting a manufacturer on board - and that manufacturer only sold in Japan. Dyson used that money to launch his own business. The rest is history. So, of all inventors, Mr. Dyson seems to be familiar with hit and misses a lot. All that said, I just hope there aren't 5000 prototypes of these headphones LOL

Yep, Dyson tried to copy an industrial bagless cyclone vacuum he once saw in a sawmill. It's impressive that be built 5127 prototypes in five years... In any case, I guess his patented idea is just to use cyclonic separation in a (domestic) appliance. And to provide at least one "industrial strength" feature (apart from the pink color), he added an "industrial strength" price (equivalent to 10,000€ in 2023 money,).

The Dyson Solarcycle Morph Lamp I’ve got on my desk is awesome. You can set it to the zip code it’s in, so it follows the sun’s position in the sky. As the day progresses, the light becomes increasingly brighter and whiter; as the day wanes, the light becomes mellower and more yellow to help with your circadian rhythms. Achieved by regulating the amount of blue light it emits. It also has a proximity sensor so if I get up in the middle of night, it lights my path, then turns off once I’m back in bed. It can turn on at preset times to coincide with your morning routine, helping you wake up, for example. When you’re away on a trip, you can set it to turn itself on and off randomly. It has different light modes: study, precision, relax, wake up. All this for $650. A high end side table lamp with nothing but an on/off switch and none of these features can cost anywhere from $1,800 to $3,800 and up if bought from any of the well established lighting and design companies such as FLOS, Roche Bobois, Artemide, Design Within Reach, etc.

This is actually very similar to an idea I've had for a long time. Not because I'm an engineer or anything, but because I read a lot of comic books. I always thought it would be cool to have some self contained helmet type thing that managed your audio, air, could filter your voice, maybe some visual stuff but that's going overboard, built in camera, etc. Like a smart helmet basically. I could never imagine a version where it wasn't some giant bulky thing that looked ridiculous on your head, I'm glad to know Dyson didn't figure that out either.

I;ve got sleep apnoea & a cpap machine, the whole point of that is it provides high air pressure that keeps your throat open whilst asleep, while you're awake you don't have apnoeas so pointless wearing a cpap mask. Even if you wear these headphones whilst sleeping (which given their huge size and weight, seems an impossibility), there's nowhere near enough pressure nor sealing to keep your airways open. Given the rigouress testing any medical device has to undergo, I reckon Dyson himself would advise you not to even consider doing that.

my confusion is why didn't they just make a motorcycle helmet which cools the driver with a fan, has decent quality headphones and somewhat filters the breathing air?
