For those who are wondering, Girardi was manager of the Marlins in 2006. He was named Manager of the year, after they won a Wild Card berth in the playoffs. However, he eas fired after an altercation with the Owner, Jeffrey Loria. Girardi was fired for telling the owner to cool it with heckling the umpires

@@harryfoster9075 Great ask, thanks for this. I’d go Hornsby’s 1924. Like without further breakdown, 222 OPS+ that season. Tied for the 34th highest ever in an qualifying season. It’s a rate that has only been eclipsed by one player since 1958, and that’s by Barry Lamar Bonds, four times. At the time, only Ross Barnes’ 1876 at 235 was higher for an NL batter. For context-Barnes hit the first NL homer that year on May 2. But to Hornsby: 25 home runs. He had done so twice at that point in his career. Only 3 others could say they had multiple such seasons post 1924: Ruth, Cy Williams, and Ken Williams. Including Hornsby, only 10 had so ouch as one 25 homer season. If you want me to go deep history I’ll argue Pete Browning in 1882, just let me know.
