Fun Fact: In 2011, Theo Epstein had been with the Red Sox for nearly a decade, and had lead them to the playoffs 5 times with 2 pennants and 2 World Championships. After entering September with a 99.6% chance of making the playoffs, the chances were that Epstein would stay on with the Red Sox in 2012, and Terry Francona would stay with Boston. But after going 7-20 when needing to go at least 8-19 and failing to make the playoffs, Terry Francona was fired after 8 straight years with the Red Sox, and Theo Epstein left for...the Chicago Cubs, who were conveniently in need for a new GM/President of Baseball Ops. The Cubs hired Epstein later on in 2011, where he began to rebuild the Cubs. Meanwhile, Francona took 2012 off as a broadcaster, but came back to manage in 2013 with the Cleveland Indians. Both teams rebuilt and climbed to the top of their divisions in 2016, where they would both win the AL and NL Pennants and meet in the World Series. The Cubs, along with Theo Epstein, Jon Lester and John Lackey-3 members from that 2011 Sox team-pulled off a thrilling 3-1 comeback against Francona and the Indians to win the World Series for the first time in 108 years. The 2011 Red Sox collapse created the 2016 Cubs. Thanks to Evan Longoria and Robert Andino, and Johnathan Papelbon. Funny how things work out like that.

Thanks for uploading this. What a crazy night. Although I dont think much was added by showing tweets throughout the video, I dont know why ESPN thought that was a good idea

Fun Fact: This whole final day madness was the inspiration for Rob Manfred to put in the Wild Card Game.

And also eventually implement what soccer always does and have everyone play their final game at the same time. Sadly, there hasn't been an in/out scenario on that final day ever since it was implemented. (This year will be no different.)

Mmm wouldn’t this make you not want a wild card game? This was so awesome

It was Selig and I was glad it was implemented the next year because it made the NL interesting for a bit in 2012.

@@JackMasterAndrew The next year was bizarre with the Orioles in the mix and the A's overcoming a 5 game deficit in the AL West.

Indeed, as a Phillies fan, it was a stunning ending to a great season. You guys owe us your last title! (Lol). Perhaps if we're in the running this season, you'll return the favor come September? Belated congrats on that victory over Texas!
