I was at a game in KC (as a Ranger fan) where Ken Harvey hit a long shot that was just foul but initially ruled a home run. The Rangers argued, and the umps got together on the third base line to discuss and eventually reversed the call. A group of Royals fans sitting in the seats next to me hurled a beer bottle at the umps and it landed right in the middle of the four of them. They turned and glared in our direction, looked right at the guy who threw it. Not a goddamn thing was done about it. Nothing was said, no security came by... nothing. Very next pitch, Harvey hit the same exact shot to the same exact location, this time just fair. I left for a minute or two to go smoke.

The MLB rulebook states Umpires only have authority of people ON THE FIELD. So how he can eject a fan is beyond me, he has no authority to do that.
@eauhomme2 жыл бұрын
Davidson did not handle it correctly, though it has been accepted that an umpire has authority to remove fans, and my guess is he heard about it from the league afterward. What he should have done is had a chat with a security officer on the field or in the dugout, mentioning which fan it was. The security officer could then relay the information to the usher to order the guy to leave. That can be done without the other fans knowing it was the umpire who ordered the ejection. It has been generally accepted that the umpire can eject a fan. It can become a safety issue, and I know someone who threatened to sue a league if anything resulted due to the refusal to eject a fan who had made "I'll see you after the game" threats to the umpire. The league realized he was serious and ended up having the guy removed under threat of law enforcement. Our association also let them know that any similar refusals would result in the association refusing to work any more games for that league.
@admthrawnuru Жыл бұрын
@@eauhomme according to the need, the first fan was repeatedly yelling "you suck" at Davidson. Not threatening or cussing or using slurs. If so, the ump should have no authority to eject him, and I hope he faces severe consequences behind the scenes.
