@@DaffyDuck007 no not the same with Bonds. Nothing about Rose and Bonds is the same. Rose always signed autographs. Bonds never did. Pete never took any performance enhancing drugs. Bonds looked like a skeleton his first few seasons.

@@hugh1297 He bet on games involving his team. And he didn't bet on the Reds to win each night. There were times where he didn't. In basketball you would call it throwing the game. In boxing you would call it taking a dive. Rose influenced the outcome of his games while betting on them. He has lied and cheated throughout his career and afterwards. The man is not worth praising. I am in the company of reasonable people who call out poor behaviour.

Never used steroids. Didn't steal the opposing teams signs. Didn't cheat. Simply bet that he would win. Some men are beyond the Hall of Fame. They are called Legends.

Cincinatti has great fans. Great baseball town. This ovation is outrageous. I never realized it was so long. Clips used to only show the hit then Rose hugging his son.

Feat that will likely never be seen again.... took 10 minutes and 50k fans to make him break down.... god love him, mistakes later... Pete Rose is one of the best players to ever play the game. He suffered for 30 years... let him in the Hall... its meaningless without him.

@Scott Grudziadz why? And I mean that, as in don’t give me a ride, disingenuous response or reason. Why doesn’t he belong? What exactly does betting on a sport have to do with breaking cobbs record? If the hall enshrines those who accomplish miraculous feats in the game we love, then why doesn’t rose belong in there? He IS and always will be one of the GREATEST to play the game. And you can’t deny that or take it away from him.

They have commercials for sports betting all the time now and have celebrities promoting it. Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He set a record that may never be broken.

Agreed. And I found out an interesting stat that is amazing. Out of all his 4,256 hits, nearly half of all his hits were doubles. He might not have had home run power, but in my lifetime, he is my all time favorite baseball player because of his work ethic heart and hustle he displayed on the field.

Could you imagine. A kid from Cincinatti grows up and gets to play for his home town team he grew up watching. His dad was a legendary athlete in his own right and inspired pete and mentored him throughout his career. He later said in an interview he began crying thinking about all the people that helped him get to 4192. And one of the primary persons was his dad. Its amazing for a home town kid to become a legend like this and bring the city glory and a championship. Lrbron did it with tue cavaliers. Its very rare this happens

He honestly played baseball like his dad played football. And pete was also a running back in high school. His father was a big inspiration for the way he played the game. He said earlier in his career he went 0 for 4. In the parking lot after the game to his surprise was his dad waiting at his car and he said "your 2nd at bat I think you could of ran a little harder to first base. I want you to know the way you play the game out there is a direct reflection of me. I want you to know that there is always someone watching in that someone is me". His father was a great man and mentor and the primary reason Pete was who he was

I think forgiveness and compassion are In order. It’s been 31 years. The man is in his 80s. He’s the best ambassador you could have at this point. A helluva story. Baseball bring your son home. Let him cry on that podium as he tries to give his induction speech. Quit being so sanctimonious that you can’t allow for some joy at the end of a failed man’s life. We understand how serious his offense was, but now is the time. Please do it before it is too late. Let him slide headfirst one last time.

I was at County Stadium for Robin Younts 3000th hit and the Milwaukee fans gave him a 10-15 min standing ovation. It was my greatest memory in MLB.

Being a Chicagoan and a Cubs fan, I used to hate that SOB and all the Big Red Machine. But, looking back, that guy inspired more than a generation of Hustlers and to this day shoulders the flag of ETHIC. Tempus Fugit Charley Hustle belongs in the HOF!

Remember watching this live in my friend's basement when we were 14. We about knocked each other out celebrating. And it seemed like that standing O would last forever. When you make Pete Rose tear up on the baseball field, you've touched him.

Longevity. He never hit .400 or hit in 56 games straight, or has the highest career batting average. So I wouldn't say the greatest hitter of all time.

My daughter played fastpitch softball i would show her pete rose videos She says everyone should play sports with his heart !!! And she did like pete . I saw pete rose a a kid and thought this man a Is the best ever . I met pete in youngstown one night you can see the fire in his eyes. I saw pete again in vegas a few years ago . I talked with him . For a hakf an hour he is the same man i remember . I believe in my heart that pete rose should be in the hall of fame ... best player that EVER Played baseball and the best player that played any sport. Shame on you hall of fame. I for one feel blessed for being able to see pete rose play live . And to show my daughter how a game should be played . Thank you pete rose for being you and giving your all in sports and life thank you

In almost 3,000 more at bats, Rose had 67 more hits than Ty Cobb. Guess who was the better hitter. It's basically a longevity record. Cobb wins .366 to .303.

This hit was shown live on TV. When Pete came up to bat, they cut in on the programming to show it. The whole world was watching! Then they hung around and showed the celebration! Greatest hitter in Baseball History!

It wasn't known at the time - to Rose or anyone else - but Rose was already the new hits leader before this moment Research done after 1985 revealed that one of Ty Cobb's games in which he collected two hits was inadvertently counted twice; Cobb had actually retired with 4,189 career hits. Rose had actually broken the record a few days earlier at Wrigley Field.

I remember watching this live as my padres played the reds. It seemed like the game stopped for about 15 minutes or so. This guy belongs in the hall of fame already. I understand that he bet on baseball and what not. I say let him in the hall. I have always wondered why he's had to wait so long??? I have always wondered if baseball found out that he bet against his team. If he did , then he should never enter the hall.

That was his first season back with the Reds since 1978 and to break the career hits record in his hometown is special indeed.

Kind of. That was 1985, and he was traded back to Cincinnati in August of 1984. So the 1985 season he started with the Reds and played the entire year with them....but he went back to Cincy the year prior (1984).

If the Astros can keep their world series then Pete Rose should be in the Hall Of Fame. Pete Rose was the hardest working player of All Time. He did not have all natural talent. He worked to get where he did!

Riverfront Stadium was a perfect stadium for Pete Rose, because of the very hard field, it was so hot and humid there, it was closed-in stadium, the ball carried so well, and he work the whole field, depending on where he was pitched.

I watched Pete his entire career since 1963, he is the best hitter I've ever seen, absolutely should be allowed into the Hall of Fame

Probably the best ball player to have played with the grown mindset. Not with the talent of a Willie Mays or Mantle or Ken Griffey Jr., not with that God given ability. But the desire to continue to game at the very peak each night out. Not giving an inch,

I'm just about sure that we all know what is going to happen. After Pete Rose dies and is not around anymore, THEN Pete Rose will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. In my opinion the Baseball Hall of Fame will never be up to date or in other words complete until his legacy in baseball attached to his name is next to the names of the other baseball greats in the Hall of Fame. Its sad that he won't be able to enjoy it but that's the unwritten deal that we all know to well, similar such things happens in many aspects of life.

You hit, run, throw, and catch. And those are your skills for this sport. But of all those skills, hitting is what makes baseball unique and kind of special. And the best hitter of all time is not in the hall of fame? Very strange.

Actually, Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's hit record three days previously, with hit # 4190. The reason? Cobb was mistakenly credited twice for each of two hits he hit in the second game of a double-header on September 24, 1910: that game got moved to September 25 -- but those responsible for the baseball annals forgot to remove the stats for the previous day. Accordingly, Cobb's lifetime record should stand at 4, 189 -- not 4,191.

One of the 3 greatest milestone moments in baseball history, right along with Hank Aaron's 715th home run and Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played record. All 3 amazing achievements and great, historical moments.

Me too! When Hank hit #715, it was on Monday Night Baseball, and I remember begging my dad to let us stay up to see Hank's 2nd AB after he failed to homer in his 1st AB. Mind you, my dad did NOT bargain. He laid down rules. We lived by them. BUT....he was a ball player and he was reasonable. (taught me and my brothers to play baseball, and once had an offer from the Braves right after WWII when they were in Boston) Anyway, he said we could stay up, and sure enough, Hammerin' Hank hit it out his next time up. I will always be grateful to my dad for that, and I told him so a few years ago before he passed away. I once met Mr. Aaron in the Atlanta airport when the flight we were on was cancelled. One of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I offered to help him and his wife with their bags, but they said they were going to go home and try again the following day.

I remember seeing this on TV live. I was 11 and remember watching with my Grandparents. I remember being happy for him getting the hit. A local guy Wayne Krenchicki played for the Reds too and was there in the dugout and witnessed it live too.

Despite the fact that apparently this wasn't the actual record-breaking moment (there's a long-standing story that MLB counted two of Ty Cobb's hits twice, meaning Pete Rose actually broke the record a few games earlier) this was such a cool moment to see. Such a shame Pete couldn't get out of his own way with the gambling crap. Whether you believe he should be in the HOF or not (I think he should be), a lot of his turmoil is self-inflicted.
