This World Series is massively underrated. In fact, all World Series’ from the 2000s are underrated! Not that much people talk about them

Easily without a doubt the single most important home run in Angels Team history. Great at bat by Spezio who had a great season that year as well.

I met Scott Spezio a couple of years after the Angels won the World Series. He was at a cards show in Anaheim and I was talking to him about this game and this at bat which along with Kirk Gibsons home run in the 1988 World Series was the single most dramatic moment I have ever witnessed in sports. Like the Dodgers in that series the odds were against the Angels coming back especially since they were down 5-0. When I asked Spezio about that moment that night he said that going into that 8th inning when the Angels rallied they never held their heads and always believed that they were going back and somehow at least tie the game even though were down 5-0. He said when they headed back to the dugout for that record breaking rally of an inning to start their at bat he told me that they believed that because they had done it all year that year and also did it against the 2 previous teams they had played in the playoffs up to that point in the 2 previo-us series that particular post season against the Yankees and Twins. Going into that World Series and into that game they believed they would not only rally and come back with that relentless offensive attack of theirs that season but also would win. I remember vividly watching this game and thinking to myself that would somehow come back and pull it off. They did. One of the great games ever. The following night the Angels celebrated their 1st World title. This current Dodgers World Series team that won this year reminds of me of that Angels team. They are both World Champions will forever be champions to.

The decision to start Bonds in left field instead of putting him in the DH spot in this game was an exercise in stupidity for Dusty Baker. Bonds was a comedy of errors the entire series! 😆

I call this game "The Mistake." When Dusty Baker came out to get Russ Ortiz and gave him the ball thinking that it was going to be the GAME BALL when the Giants won the game and thus the World Series. M-I-S-T-A-K-E! Some Angels players took offense to this arrogant presumption and made the Giants pay dearly and ripped the Series right out from under them!

I wonder if pulling Ortiz too soon played a part in Baker's decision to leave Mark Prior in the game far too long one year later. Like maybe he was second guessing this decision and overcompensated.

Barry Bonds, who was 6 outs away from a World Series title and MVP, has a miserable Bottom of the 8th defensively that gave Anaheim all the leverage they needed to take over and win that game.

This is where Kevin Cash learned how to pull a pitcher whos dominating the game.

I remember this day like yesterday. Growing up in Anaheim, just after my pop Warner practice ended. My dad and I walked into a packed pizza parlor and Scott Speez is at bat, down five. Place was going nuts by the end of it. A close second Angels moment for me was Kennedy’s hat trick against the twins. We’ll be back one day

My sister was at game 6. She was in the Right Field Pavilion, and was very close to the Bonds Homerun ball.

IMO the greatest game in Angels history! (ALDS Game 3 against NYY a few weeks earlier maybe the 2nd greatest.) This Game 6 was the greatest comeback in World Series history for a team facing elimination.
