Friends of Fondation Felicite (FFF) UK featuring Ankhobia remember and honour the life and work of Dr Martin Luther King. FFF were invited by Audrey Hayles of INSPIRING A NEW GENERATION ORG to speak at this annual event. The evening coincided with the commemoration of the earthquake that devastated Ayiti (Haiti) in 2010.
THEME: 'A REVOLUTION OF VALUES - MARTIN LUTHER KING AND HAITI'

Reply 2 to 'AlkebulanSound': These were men who put their lives on the lines for us as Afrikans today. I don’t see any leadership out there today willing to go the lengths that MLK did - to be prepared to die for what he believed in, let alone the average person. As for our generation today it is not to scorn our leaders/ancestors of the past but to learn from them and take the best of what they represented as Afrikan men and women; and include in our works today!

Reply 1: Hi ‘AlkebulanSound’ thanks for passing by and watching the video. IMHO men such as MLK, Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Steve Biko, Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumbuma, Dedan Kimathi and many more died young so we will never know in the light of day how their philosophy and vision would have developed at later stages. But still we give them credit for what they did set out to do and achieve whether or not we agree with the strategy that they used or philosophy they promoted. cont...

Reply 3 to 'AlkebulanSound': Besides King was not alone he represented the aspirations of millions of our people globally - all conditioned by a European paradigm. So from our ancestor Martin Luther King, I take the best of what he represented as I do with many of leaders, none of whom were perfect but did the best that could with what they had.

1: Greetings Alkbellun Sound over the years I have used various resources to learn about Ayiti/Haiti. By far the best sources of information come first hand from the elders around me in particular Professor Bayyinah Bello, Clive Harris, and Jacob Currthers. Also visitng Ayiti/Haiti was an invaluable experience. As mentioned in the video I would encourage all Afrikans to visit the country and connect with the soul of the land, our ancesotrs, its history/ourstory and the people.

Reply 4 to 'AlkebulanSound': Now as for the discussion we (Friends of Fondation Felicite) were invited to talk about Ayiti/Haiti. As a lot of young people were present not to mention elders it would have made no sense to stand there attacking our ancestor, for to do so would bring about disunity in a time when or people need unity. We were speaking within the context of what would MLK say and do about the plight of our family in Ayiti/Haiti today.

Here are the words Toussaint Louverture pronounced at his arrest: “In overthrowing me, you have done no more than cut down the trunk of the tree of the black liberty in St-Domingue-it will spring back form the roots, for they are numerous and deep.” Toussaint Louverture

Reply 5 to 'AlkebulanSound': So with that in mind what better way to bring a sense of togetherness and focus on a mission of ‘doingness’ by using as an example an ancestor that they admire and show them what he did with his short time to make a contribution to the RACE; thereby asking them what are they doing for Self and willing to do for others/RACE.

What do Toussaint Louverture (Haiti) Mahatma Gandhi (India), Haile Selassie (Ethiopia), Martin Luther King (USA) , Nelson Mandela (South Africa) have in common?

They were all great men however according to some Mahatma Gandhi did make some racist comments about african people and for that he is considered as racist by some of us.
