I remember being there during his speech. I was just 16 years old. I vividly remember that look on his face when he gave that speech. When he finished he almost collapsed to the point where his aides had to assist him to his seat. I do believe that he saw his own death. On the day when he was shot, my family and I were on our way back to New York. It came over the car radio that he had been assassinated. Dad couldn't drive us back home. So I took the wheel and drove us back to New York City. The riots that we had to drive pass were extremely frightening and dangerous. I remember dad saying "FOR US. THE HANDS OF TIME HAS BEEN TURNED BACK TO THE DAYS OF THE PLANTATIONS."

I am a 53 years old white English guy and everytime I watch/listen to this I cry. Look at Dr King's eyes and face, that's not acting, pretence or just speaking for effect, it's raw emotion and total sincerity. I believe he knew his work was done and that God wanted him to ascend, when he says God has taken him to the mountain top to see the promised land he was speaking truthfully. And he knew why God had done that, to let him see that his work had helped his people to get there but that he wouldn't see it in this world. He was conflicted, he knew his time was ending and accepted it but was also saddened. Indescribably powerful and moving. The world desperately needs people like Dr King today.

MLK devoted his life to fighting the system that kept us oppressed and in subhuman conditions, let us not forget him and how far we've come and how much further we must go to fulfill his dream. Also, don't be offended when the children you've neglected to rear and/or give the time of day that regardless of your clearly lacking conscience, physically made and are aware of their existence, therefore have a responsibility to be the parent, to the child. This is not optional. When those statistically scary numbers of children who were neglected of a father figure, later make generalizing statements that they "hate" men, perhaps question what caused them to feel that way instead of becoming the victim in a situation where you shirked your responsibilities, and have caused lifelong attachment and relationship issues with your own children, who have had no experience with a loving present father figure. Dr. King from all I've seen and heard was an absolutely amazing father to his children, be like him. We know who's who. Parenthood is an obligation, and one you will wish you had met with joy and strove only to excell at, if one is to ever be in midst of the promised Land with him. Edit: I realize the username is a female name, but I also realize that the trend of jokingly saying we hate men also became another's personal attack and persecution complex, despite it basically being directed at our experiences with males, specifically our deadbeat father's, and the feeling of being unloved and unwanted, by them, is impressively taken personally by completely childless, and wonderful Men who don't have any comprehension of nuance. It's crazy we said that but we're also here in the comment section of a Dr King video discussing how much we love him, too. It's almost as if things are actually complex and no situation is ever Black or White. Fairly certain Dr. King would be most disapproving of deadbeat fathers, for what it's worth.

Wow! Now that there is, without any doubt in my mind, a truly authentic human being. I salute him and his message. Martin Luther King Jnr was a real man. In the true sense of the word.

Cap MLK was a good man and did the right thing by helping make a gateway for equality but I don't think the government did it after all he was friends with JFK before he died and his cabinet
