Valentina won the majority of the striking exchanges, and out struck her in a fight where 41/2 rounds was a striking battle

Shevchenko clearly showed that she was a more dominant and skilled fighter, able to adapt fat better than Nunes ever could. Nunes trying to act like those last two takedowns weren't out of complete desperation... Shevchenko was countering Nunes left and right and slipping away when she needed too. For christs sakes look back at the highlights, even the ones directly after the fight just showed that Shevchenko put out far more output than Nunes. Stop sucking up to the UFC, this was a total robbery and a bad look for the sport.

Crazy. I just watched again on Fight Pass. Nunes took round one, Valentina unquestionably took rounds 2 3 and 4. I'd personally give her 5 as well. I don't understand how they can say it was even close. I guess they count every kick that Valentina blocked as a hit which is kind of ridiculous, as well as every one of Nunes little calf taps to Valentina and kicks where her toes barely graze Valentina's body. Valentina was far more accurate, landing direct punches and kicks as well as truly impressive counters and dodges. She was also quick to knees to the body at nearly every clinch. Nunes meanwhile was putting Valentina's eyes at risk every round jutting her fingers with long nails outwards nonstop. The only thing you might say is Valetina's counter-striking style can appear like she on the run with Nunes always putting on the forward pressure, which makes you appear like the dominant fighter. Even with Nunes takedown in the last round, Valentina landed way more total strikes. But if you give Nunes round 5, that's only 2 rounds out of 5.

After watching I can tell why this fight was swept under a rug, the UFC should be ashamed. Valentina clearly won !

It was a true mma fight. Two of the best in the division went toe to toe, that are master's in their own technical strategies. Who have respect for each other's strengths, while they where looking for weaknesses during the fight... Honestly, both fighters have validity on why they won the bout.

I completely agree with Valentina on her assessment of this fight. I scored it the same. Definitely 2,3, and 4. I also think 5 was hers. Even though she was on the he bottom of that takedown she landed more strikes even from the bottom position.

Technically the best all round fighter in the UFC male or female. Ground Game and Stand Up are both elite. She also speaks brilliantly, intellectually and has a presence about her which add to her legendary status.

I scored rounds 2, 4 and 5 for Valentina, but the fight and most of the rounds were so close that it definitely was NOT a robbery. Looking at the differences in the judges' scorecards, I'd bet their scores were influenced by where they were sitting at cage side. The same judges could go home, watch the replay and score it differently. Someone even tweeted at the end of the fight, that "someone is gonna be pissed with the decision". Before, Valentina's attempted throw and Amanda's subsequent takedown, I thought Amanda was blowing round 5 and clearly getting outworked. She seemed more intent on getting the takedown and establishing superior position, hoping that would sway the judges rather than trying to finish the fight. She just maintained position and never tried to advance. I don't even remember her throwing any punches on the ground. I thought Ariel Helwani and Mike Bonn asked some pretty poor questions in the post fight press conference. That and they sound like scared puppies. They sound like they should be reporting for a Parcheesi tournament, not MMA.

I called Shevchenko victory when watching it felt it could go either way....leaned towards Valentina but she is right the take downs is what the judges when by and not overall striking/ damage.

Valentina out struck Amanda in the stand up in rounds 2 thru 5 nearly 2 to 1 . Fair and impartial judges are needed. They seemed to be under the impression a Champion has to be knocked out or submitted for the belt to change hands. Championship fights should be fought in this manner....as many rounds as it takes until one of them cannot continue.

I think a reasonable person could see how either fighter could have been given the decision. Valentina herself only thinks she won 3 rounds, so if the judges disagreed with her on only one round then she lost. My assessment is that Amanda clearly won rounds 1 and 5, while Valentina won round 4, so the debate is who won rounds 2 and 3. Valentina, I thought was too defensive and although she has quicker hands, she was only waiting to counter, problem is Amanda knew it, so Amanda was the aggressor but she was using low kicks and kicks to the abdomen, making it difficult for Valentina to counter and limited her scoring opportunities. Because Amanda was the aggressor and the judges are suppose to award the aggressor, since they are bringing the fight, that's was the key reason Amanda won. You can play it safe like Valentina, be defensive and only plan to score by countering the whole night, but don't be surprise when you lose, since the only fighter I've seen to have success with that strategy in title fights is Mayweather, but unfortunately Valentina is not Mayweather. Lastly, I suspect Valentina was gun shy after feeling Amanda power in the first fight, since that's the only reason I can think of that would cause her not to let her hands go, when her hands are clearly quicker that Amanda's.

I think the the new unified rules of MMA somehow has affected the judges, it seems like a takedown is MASSIVE in the scorecard but if you fail the takedown your opponent gets that point. Derek Brunson v Anderson Silva is a good example of this

For me round 3 is the deciding round but also I can understand what she says. And she did win on the ground. A super technical fight. Nunes leg kicks were her point scoring. 1 elbow, 1 punch and 1 take down for nunes in 25 minutes. Valentina had it 3:2 in a super close fight.

I feel the 2 TD in round 5 helped what was in my eyes a very close fight. Strikes were always the same. Nunes owned the middle most of the fight though. Very close fight regardless.

Shevchenko won that fight imo.. just like she said.. unfortunately, point fighting doesn't win championship fights.. you need to be the aggressor and look to dominate, not simply out point on counter striking

i had nunes winning rounds 1 & 5 & shevchenko winning 2 & 4 round 3 could of gone either way and i marked it as level a draw would of been the fairest result in my opinion still think they should run it back

They have to decide if having top control and not making anything from it, versus being taken down and landing good solid strikes. Kind of ask the question of who has the control, how utilised the takedown, I think that the only reason nunes won was because of the takedowns, and I think the scorecard gives too much credit to a takedown, and they don't regard who makes more use of it. If shev made more of the takedown, you surely have to give the points of the takedown to her.

when you are fighting the champ you have to be aggressive and outshine the champ and as much as I expected Shevchenko to win she didn't so enough to assert herself against Nunes. Definitely wasn't robbed.
