My favorite comment I've ever seen on your videos is that you're the Bob Ross of fishing LOL! And I mean that as an undeniable compliment. You're an absolute phenom, and I love your videos. I'm a 35 year old who just moved to MN and just started fishing, & you and Richard Gene are my heroes. I listen to your videos when I'm fishing for inspiration. Thanks for posting!

Man, great to see you back! Man you think of everything bringing the bike lock for your cart. You were most likely right no one would mess with it. I have been going up to Minnesota every summer to finish at least once for the last 10 years and we have never had a key to any cabin on any lake we have stayed in. We just leave things unlocked all day long and have no problems. Minnesota people and fishermen are good honest people.

I think it’s more about protecting walleye and pike during spawn and they decided to lump bass in with that group. Doesn’t make much sense for bass though, the season opens well before they go on beds.

This lake has some special regs on panfish, 5 crappies and 10 bluegills. Basically half the normal limit for most MN waters. I had to double check and there is no size limit there although 10” is about as small as I like to keep anyway.

Panfish are definitely fun to catch. They put on a good fight and then most of the time they are too small but it's still a blast. I dont waste too much time going for the big toothy fish because I'm out there to have fun and catch whatever is biting. I usually end up catching a pike or two during that time but I mostly target the panfish.

@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ryan! I mostly fish the western part of the state but there’s no shortage of water to fish no matter where you are in MN. I’d check out google maps and find some lakes close to you, then look those lakes up on the MN DNRs Lakefinder website. There’s tons of good info on lakes there including maps and DNR test net results so you can see the species, size, and numbers of fish they sampled. That’s how I go about looking for new water to fish. There should be fish biting just about everywhere now though, bass and panfish are getting ready to spawn so they’ll be in shallow water. There’s also a couple groups on Facebook you can check out if you’re on there, “Fishing Minnesota” is where a lot of people post reports and if you have a kayak check out the Minnesota Kayak Fishing Association. A lot of that groups members are from the cities and they meet up and fish often.

Matt- Winter has lasted way too long here in IL! It is just now finally getting nice out! Its a shame, IL is just a crappy state for fishing! I envy you that you're able to hit MN and ND waters for great fishing. I will be up in MN for 2 weeks at the end of July. In your vid, was there any structure the crappie were laying down by, or just off the reed/grass? Surprised no northerns came in for an easy meal, that is if there are northerns in that lake. As always, another great video! I am always looking forward to your vids!
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jonas! There wasn’t any structure other than the dead cattails and reeds from last year. Crappies like to spawn around those. I think that one spot was holding the majority of them because it was closest to deep water and the wind was blowing directly into it. I did some stand up paddling around the shallows yesterday and saw several nice pike and a ton of crappies about a foot deep in some of the thickest reeds out there. Lots of big ones but the weeds were too thick to try to work anything in there with my 4lb line.

Hey Matt! Nice to see you back in action! Question, do you have multiple reels with different size line on them or do you completely change out your line when you want to change pound test?
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 6 жыл бұрын
I have three of the MGX spinning reels. I keep 10lb mono on all of their main spools but that reel also comes with a spare “shallow” spool that works well for smaller diameter line. I have one spooled up with 4lb mono I was using here and one with 15lb braid.

More of Minnesota lakes should put size limit for crappies , I seen too many people taking 6-8inches that's not giving them a chance to grow
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, lots of lakes in that area have a 10-11” size minimum and they’re great crappie lakes. 10” is about as small as I’d want to keep anyway. I was actually kicking myself for keeping those smaller ones, I got a few more 11-12”s after I already had my limit on the stringer.

@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 6 жыл бұрын
It’s never too late to fish crappies, you’d probably just have to look a little deeper now that they’re likely done spawning up shallow. Some lakes do have a ton of small ones and that can stunt the population. Sometimes only a certain area of the lake seems to attract the big ones. I noticed that at this lake when I went back a couple weeks ago. Little ones everywhere but a couple points seemed to hold all the 11-14” fish.
