I played against Costa Rican pros in a stadium like this (though smaller). They were incredibly fast with the ball without seeming to go fast. It was like an illusion. Their team looked more organized than the US.

After having a 22 game win streak over Guatemala......they lose 2-0 to them (They suck btw) Then for the first time ever Mexico gets a win in a columbus......Then lose 4-0 to Costa Rica.....then Costa Rica gets first win in US soil since 1985......ever since Jurgen put off Donovan off the 2014 world cup, this team hasn't been consistent enough overall compared to 2013

This was the match that actually knocked the USA out of the World Cup. Two long streaks came to an end that day and only then the Americans realized they were still in a fragile predicament. To be honest, after being knocked out last minute and then forced to play under a snowfall last two WCQ visits there, I'm glad this victory had such repercussions to the USA MNT.

The US are so unlucky in this one! They played well, especially offensively. (Except perhaps for Pulisic, who in spite of his status,contributed very poorly.) And great goalkeeping by Navas!

I didn't get to watch the first half and saw the disappointing pieces of the second half but goodness the US dominated the first 25 mins! Should have gotten the PK!

Many missed chances for USA :( Pulisic is a good player but whenever I see him he is never very efficient before the goal. Altidore did better in this match but always waited a bit too long.

Mexico fan here (don't know whether that's relevant to you all or not)..... The biggest problem i saw friday night was the huge Costa Rica crowd in attendance; how do the federation and fans (those who decide to resell their tickets for profit- there's many of you out there) allow that? There is just no home-field advantage for USMNT and it's a shame. Mexico City people are right up that alley, not having soldout El Azteca vs Panama is a joke and now the Mexican federation may be looking to give other venues like Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Monterrey a chance where they are sure to have every seat occupied with a green jersey. As for the USMNT, i can't think of a more favorable venue than Seattle, Columbus is too small and outdated.

It's funny how you guys say: "we couldn't even beat CR" like we're some kind of laughingstock. Well... half our national team play at MLS and the other (better) half play at Europe.

That first cross to Pusilic was interesting. The ball was played for him to head it across the goal but he hesitated and chested it down. Then blew the play. If I did that in a NCAA soccer game I would've been benched immediately. Hell I kicked an imperfect corner kick in a high school game and was taken out afterwards. It's weird how Arena is better than Klinnsman as a coach and seems to have a better feel of playing good soccer. Maybe he's friendlier. It's the simple stuff that makes all the difference in soccer.

It's an aging team that will not be getting any better. The process has been unproductive and now there's little margin for improvement because it's too late to try to introduce new players.

Interesting how the USMNT's streak of 7 straight World Cups made from 1990-2014 was bookended by similar decisions by USSF. In 1985, the US decided to play their home qualifier against Costa Rica in Torrence, CA, an area with a large Tico population. The majority of the crowd were Costa Rica fans, and the US lost, going on to miss the World Cup. Then 32 years later, the US, once again on the brink of elimination, decided to play their home qualifier in New Jersey, another area with a large Tico population. Again a large Costa Rican contingent showed up, and again the US lost and would go on to miss the World Cup.

If we could have finished even a few chances, we would have won. Still disappointing, but I'm not mad. One of those nights.

Humble opinion: this generation of USMNT players is more talented than previous generations (Such as Landon Donovan's reign with the USMNT). I know that there were more national players playing in Europe in previous generations, but none of them has done it at the highest level; like Pulisic is currently doing so. One of the main reasons that I believe that the USMNT of 2001-2013 were able to achieve a lot more (thus far) then the current generation, is due to the hunger of getting the respect by teams in our region, and with the rest of the world (they were underdogs then). As we now know, the USMNT achieved in earning everyone's respect in Concacaf. So much so, that teams in Concacaf no longer see the USMNT as equals, but they're rather motivated in pulling an upset with one of the big team of the region. This is an experience that many young players of this generation enter with; when playing with the USMNT. This is why I believe this generation has problems with performing within the region. I get the feeling that they will have no problem in performing against other federations of other regions in the 2018 WC. Mexico is the best example of what I'm explaining. It took a coach like Osorio to finally help the Mexican national team qualify with ease against Concacaf teams teams that thrive on pulling on upset against them.

Worst game I've seen from Pulisic in his national career. This is what happens when you blow up a young player's career without teaching him how to handle the pressure that comes in these games. He may be the star but he's no Landon Donovan, who at a very young age was happy to put the US on his shoulders and get the job done when most needed. I truly hope the US gets it together.
