Deanna Foster I despised Hay Hay and was originally on board for Moana because the movie teased for her little pig companion. I was disappointed when he got nearly no screen time at all.

I also hoped Pua would have more screen time, but I don't mind Hei Hei that much. It provided some comic relief in an otherwise heavy setting.

Flicks And The City I really wish I was as clever as the amazing crew behind this film. Because honestly I have no idea if putting some of these scenes into the movie would have made it better or worse. Although I think there as some really smart and funny ideas that were deleted, I loved the film for what it was. But I really would have loved seeing Maui perform CPR on his arm.

But when she hears word that Maui is in trouble she goes on one last adventure across the sea to rescue her old friend from a dangerous new villain. Or something like that haha.

Um... when has Disney *not* had a focus on female roles? Their very first movie - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - had a female lead role. In fact: the only Disney movies that come to mind right now which had a 'more than a side-character or prince charming' male role would be Old Yeller, Tangled, Big Hero Six, and The Princess and The Frog. Disney has always had an abundance of movies with female leads. Honestly, I wish they would make a movie which focused mostly on a prince for once.

No i should have clarified. Disney focuses on princess waiting for their prince to come and save them. Or some male figure to come and save them. I ment something like mulan. But even mulan was still subjected to cis gendered female role as a woman. and how she suppose to be with a man. Thats literary ever disney movie. I ment that even when she received help from a male character she still saved the day. And there wasn't any type of romance. It was completely platonic. Which is what I was grateful for. Females are brain washed through Disney, movies, shows and even people in their everyday life that their suppose to wait for a man to come. To take care of them and have families with. When therea actually better things out for a woman to explore. Which includes education, travel and their own sexuality.

You make it sound as if women having a man alongside them is a bad thing. Actually, a lot of girls want a family and a husband. That doesn't mean they can't be strong and explore their education, travel, sexuality and whatever else they want to do. That's what makes women so awesome; they can do all those things and still balance a husband and family and home if they so want it. There's nothing wrong with disney portraying women romantically involved or working alongside men--that's what most girls like. Take Tangled for example--Rapunzel and Flynn had a wonderful, equal relationship where both of them contributed and had mutual love and respect for each other. That's a great example for kids. Look at Tiana and Naveen--another great couple that learned to overcome their differences and work together equally. This isn't brain washing, this is showing women they don't have to choose between having a husband and being independent.

Just like Mulan however she still marrage shang. Almost like brave, where she won her own hand in marriage. Moana and brave are both interesting stories because they brake the heteronormativity of society. Its not bad to have male help or even marry a male. However woman are told everyday they need a man. Some are even tortured or rather bullied because they are not attracted to males. And become social outcasts all because they refuse to part of societies heteronormativity.

I was also saddened the pig was not in the movie as often as the trailers made it out to seem, but at least we got HeiHei right? Yeah? Anyone?! ;-; Moving on, you're right on the lack of evidence the grandmother and the other islanders, but most of Moana's growing up was through a song, where we did not get to see terribly much interaction in the first place. However, it was shown that the grandmother typically spent most, if not all, of her time at the beach dancing or wading in the water. Whereas most of the islanders stayed away from the ocean unless they needed to fish and even then they did not stray too far. I believe that was evidence as the grandmother "isolating" herself from the others, and the others leaving her well enough alone because she was "different" to them. I also wish they focused a bit more on the monsters, it would have been even more interesting of a movie ^^ Late and tired, not gonna reply to everything here (sorry, I mean no disrespect) but I am hoping for a second Moana!

I'm fine with the first movie. Adding a sequel would not only be unecessary, but wouldn't be that good as far as storytelling goes
