Excellent video; I am a woodworker and have watched many of your videos and they are always so clear. Once again, right on target!

Thanks for this "woodworking" series. I've been messing with SketchUp and watching other videos for just a little while, but I've learned more from your sessions than any other. I actually feel like now I finally understand how all the parts work together and I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks!!

I agree with Greg. I've been using Sketchup for a while and didn't completely understand how group and components worked until this series of videos. Thank you

They couldn't pay him enuf. Esp. since they would have to pay him to _not_ do the stuff he _wants_ to do. Plus, Aaron already has that job, and he's good at it.

Great video Justin, I'm new to Sketchup and find your videos are helpful. Following this video I came across a challenge that took awhile to figure out... When you showed both options for creating the set place for the leg (offset and tape measure) I found it very difficult to triple click and only select the leg if you used the offset tool - it kept selecting everything and didn't know why?? I tried changing my mouse options, looking on forums, etc.. No real answer. So, what I learned was to use the tape measure to offset - triple clicked worked without selecting other items!! Other way (offset tool) doesn't allow you to just select the leg...🧐😉

Triple clicking selects all connected geometry, so if your leg is touching other raw geometry, it will select all of that connected geometry. Unless I'm missing something, it sounds like it was doing what it was supposed to do...

Another great video Justin. One suggestion when coping components you are going to modify (such as a table leg or skirt) I have found the best way for me to orientate the copy to the proper perspective (mirror image of it) is to use the Flip Along feature. You touched on it briefly in this video. This feature also comes in handy when modeling bookcases, and cabinets if you going to use dadoes and rabbits in your build. Again thanks for all the work you put into making these videos I have picked up a lot of tricks and quick steps to make modeling faster.

Yeah, I know it's there, but for some reason, I really prefer using the scale tool. Probably because it gives me a visual of exactly where things are going (I always flip along the wrong axis :p ) Thanks!

Well done, if a little fast. I have trouble applying unique. When i select and right click (context clicking) often unique is grayed out. Perhaps a video showing the common mistakes newbies make, and how to recover might be useful. Using shortcut keys has helped me from getting lost in menu options, especially when they are 2 or 3 levels deep. Thanks for great lessons that have helped me learn furniture design for my shop. Keep up the great lessons. Thanks

I am a sheet metal fabricator at Auburn University. When we do change outs the new unit never line up with the old ductwork. I always seem to bring the field measurements back to the shop and build it backwards. Is there a way to make a 3 d drawing with measurements and split the pieces apart with the measurements so I can transfer measurements to metal. Thanks Kevin

Just found your channel. Thanks for making these videos. At 62 my brain is a bit slower but sketch up is something I’ve wanted to learn. I enjoy woodworking and hope to learn how to create stuff. I have the 2016 free version, is there a site I can get the keyboard shortcut list?

Thank you for this! Do you have the link to the other tutorial you said you had regarding the round table legs and the follow me? Also. Is it possible to remove the object you've extruded after you use the follow me tool? I'd like to make the profile of the leg. check it on the table according to your directions, but I need to get it back to the profile so I can print it. basically, i want to give my wife several leg options and let her see it on the table model, then choose the one she wants and take that leg back to the profile so I can print it and use it as a profile for a leg duplicator lathe. THanks for all your help!

thanks fro the video... one question, when you are editing the legs I understand that editing one component changes the other three , but when you scale the second leg, it does not impact the other legs - not sure I understand what you did to get a different response. I thought you must make the instance 'unique' which breaks the linkage permanently.
@oldhams6017
@oldhams6017 4 жыл бұрын
Ha - got it! You can scale and rotate and 'component instance', but that's all, no editing, which makes sense!
