These park rangers must have one of the best jobs in the world.

They use to , but now they have to spend most of their time making sure people don't destroy the park or themselves. 😳

I hiked to the top of the falls last month. It took me 13 hours and 7 minutes for the round trip, of which about 3 hours was for rest and photography stops, so 10 hours of actual hiking. The climb is 2700 feet in 3.2 miles. Young people in good shape can do this hike in 6~7 hours. Recommended to bring: (a) Two trekking poles; you will definitely appreciate them on the descent, when you are tired and leg muscles are fatigued. (b) At least 3 liters of water. (c) A headlamp - if you get caught still on the trail at sunset, you will be in trouble if you don't have a light. Much of the trail is rough and rocky, and it's pitch dark under the tree-shaded sections at night. (d) GOOD hiking boots, well broken in, with good, thick boot socks to cushion them. DON'T try to do this hike in sneakers! The trail is very rocky and you need boots to help support your ankles and protect your feet. NOTE: Wait for afternoon to take photos of Half Dome, on your descent, as the light will be better. Photos of Upper Yosemite Falls from the trail are better in the morning. Pace yourself on the ascent and take rest and food breaks when you feel the need to. Don't try to push yourself too hard on the ascent as you need to conserve physical resources for the descent.

discorperted after thinking about it more, I realize that it probably took me a little longer than 2 hours. I know because we were at the trailhead at 11, and got food from the general store at like 1:45 , so yea my bad. 15 hours is crazy tho, I mean if you are really out of shape and take constant breaks, it could take 5 hours tops, but not anywhere near 15

I'm 42 and in relatively good shape and can do the round trip in about 4 hours. Take your time though, and enjoy the amazing views. Take it easy coming down too; your knees will thank you for it.

It doesn't. I have a National Parks Pass and I go year round. Tioga Pass will be closed in the winter but the valley stays open year-round.

We did Half Dome! It was a fantastic day hike, but we had a hard time getting our family to understand the importance of preparation for that hike. We did it in 14 hours... and only 3 of our group of 6 made it to the top. This video was created to spark their need to PREP! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l86dfZx_3bCyoYE.html
