We finally filmed a full tour of our modern farmhouse!!! We still have more projects and decorating to do inside, but it is done for now! We absolutely love our farmhouse! It's hard to believe that we lived in a camper for a year while we built this ourselves, but we did! We could not have done it without our amazing family and friends. Thank you to everyone that helped us and encouraged us throughout our journey! We are living our dream and enjoying every second of farm life on our homestead. Thanks for watching!

You've got the coziest modern farmhouse in utube. You were able to create and express the true atmosphere of a farmhouse. ... Great job ! I always love to see an office/library/study/reading room to keep the family/household endless documents, office equipment and supplies. Documents like passports, taxes, diplomas, etc continue to pile up and meant to be kept for life. Being able to organize them in a filing cabinet will aid in finding a 10 yr old document in a breeze. Library is a nice room for a memorabilia. It's a room that has a certain function separate from the rest of the house. It can store the family growing history. I chose a spot that has the easiest access for everyone - between my kitchen and the master bedroom. It's a convenient room for my husband for his on line guitar lessons. A great room for a big pc monitor for online learning and online shopping for me. The wrap around balcony is priceless.

My husband 2 guitars that he made are in there now but I don’t think they were there during the tour… Anyway. We love the wrap around porch. It’s our favorite part of the house:) Thanks again. Beautiful home absolutely great for a family. The only things I would’ve done differently would be to have a pretty big pantry as in the last few years I’ve gotten really into making a lot of my own food from scratch. So I do a lot of canning, preserving, fermenting, smoking, curing, freeze drying, I definitely need a decent size pantry to store the majority of my food, considering I no longer get most of it at the supermarket anymore. I would change out the beautiful electric stove for a gas or propane range. It’s just wet, larger canning pots. They have been known to crack electric stove tops, so I would have to go with the gas range although the electric glass top is much easier to clean lol.. absolutely love the porch. It is a great extension to the house so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery in comfort and style.. great job guys truly great job.

Thank you so much for the nice compliments about our home and the sound advice. I love all your advice! I also cook all of my meals from scratch. At age 21 I switched to making all natural, unprocessed and (mostly) organic food. I have been doing that for 10 years now. I took that into consideration when we were building this house. I originally thought I needed a giant pantry as well, but after living in a camper for a year while building this house, I quickly realized that I didn't need a massive walk in pantry. I cooked every meal every day in our camper and only used 2 cabinets for my pantry and a mini fridge and freezer. After considering, I realized I needed a large storage space and not a large pantry:) I did not want that storage space to take up room in our living space so I have that designated space in my basement. I also can and preserve most of our food that I grow in our garden, I also freeze and dehydrate as well. I keep my canning supplies in my cabinets, but my canned goods are stored in my basement. I canned over 400 jars last year! It was my best year yet! Because I make our food, I get very little food from the supermarket so my pantry is never full haha. Its just staples. I 100% wanted a gas range but our driveway is 300ft long and we didn't have the time to dig the trench to run the gas to our house. Plus, our long term goal is to cool the house with solar and heat with wood burning furnace. So the only thing that would need gas would be the stove top. I couldn't justify the time or my husband's sanity to do that ha! The electric stovetop I have is a nice one from Kitchen Aid and it is thicker so you can put weight on it! I have put 2 full pressure canners on it:) I also only cook in cast iron and then stainless steel for specific things. It holds cast iron well! I do wish I had a gas range though... Anyway- Our minds definitely think alike:) And we love the porch. It's my favorite part of the house! I hope you have a wonderful week!
@russellwood8750
@russellwood8750 Жыл бұрын
@@CollinsCountry I hope your week is good too. Appreciate the share of knowledge didn't realize you guys had a basement as well. We can take yeah natural gas would be nice to have at your house for sure. A friend of mine has just started to build his homestead too he has a wood burning furnace as well as a wood burning range in his second kitchen. I kind of like his idea of two kitchens you have your regular kitchen for cooking and his secondary kitchen is made for food preserving and prepping. He was also telling me he has a second furnace which he uses as backup and burns propane from a large propane tank he has buried on his property. The propane tank does not only feed his furnace it also goes to a propane generator which he has as a secondary generator if his solar panels and few windmills don't produce enough power he can offset it with his propane generator. He has a really nice off-grid system not reliant on anyone but himself really. Except for the delivery driver who delivers the propane once a year which I pointed out lol. Love the lifestyle you and your family are embracing I believe it is the future lifestyle for people really.

+Russell Wood That is amazing!!!!! I love everything your friend has done. We are finishing our basement now and are hopefully putting a wood burning stove down there. We will see. But I love the wood burning stove idea for canning and preserving. We would like to be off grid as much as possible. I could probably put a wood burning stove on our back covered deck. That would be amazing. We definitely want to be as off grid as possible:)

The house turned out AMAZING!!! My fiancé and I purchased the same house plan but made some changes as well with the floor plan. Courtney, we absolutely love how the stairs turned out. You two put in so much hard work and it is just beautiful. We are wondering about one thing… what’s the color of your flooring and where did you find it? We have looked for months and can’t find anything we like and we both actually like the one you guys chose. Can’t wait to see the video on your raised gardens.

+Shannon Seiz Hey! Thank you!!! We are very great full for the outpouring of love and kind words that we have received from so many over finishing the house! (Even though it’s not complete done ha!) Anyway. You bought the same house plans?!? Awesome! I wish we would have known that. We could have sent them to you for free:) Oh well… Anyway. We got the flooring from Lumber Liquidators. It’s industrial strength LVP. It’s called Rose Canyon Pine. We love it! It really is indestructible! It’s extremely heavy though!!!! It was relatively easy to put down. It has wood grooves in it so it looks and feels like real wood. It’s very textured and not flat like other floors we looked at. We looked at hundreds of flooring before we found this one and I knew right away that it was what we were looking for:) I all admit, it’s an investment. It’s expensive. Watch the sales though because it goes on sale a few times a year… Lastly, please post pictures of your house build. We are excited to see it! Let us know if you have anymore questions:)

We will be posting a video in 2 weeks about what floor plans we purchased, how much they cost, what modifications we made, why we made them, how we made them, etc. We sent the home plans to our local lumber company (Kelly Brothers) and the shell material of the house was quoted at $110,000. Lumber was the substantial portion of that quote, but everything for the shell was in it (Windows, doors, etc). The wrap around porch lumber was very expensive, but that was something we really wanted and budgeted for:) The wrap around porch is 1,700sf! Ha I hope this helps! Hunting is a way of life for us, and it is how we provide for our family .We eat everything that we hunt. Field to fork! :) Anyway- we had the same concerns about the railing.. To our surprise, the railing has never once been an issue. We have told the older 2 boys they cannot climb on the railings and they honestly never have ... The baby has not had the opportunity to even try and climb the railings because we keep baby gates up.. When he is old enough to understand, we will allow him in that area and explain just like we did with the older kids. Thank you for the kind words.
