Honestly i'v been thinking in a similar way lately, people are obsessed with becoming special or genius or having their kids be like that, and by always trying to stand out they seperate themselves from their community which in turn slowly falls apart, the reality is that no matter how special, or handsome or smart or strong you are, if you go against the real world alone you will lose at some point, that is why forming a group is important, where everyone cover for each others weaknesses, and we can actually thrive. I know this first hand as I'm enrolled in an engineering degree right now and students who finish some assignments before everyone else boast about it and belittle others or get angry at students that ask questions, while students who are struggling with some subjects will reject any help offered to them just to not hurt their pride, needless to say that if you give them a group project they will probably have a hard time working on it with all of that pride and competition of who the next Issac Newton is.

@@Anonymous-rj2lk I completely agree with you. I even notice it at uni. If there's a group project on the horizon we're doomed, lol.

You should read: "The disappearance of rituals" by Byung Chul Han. It says exactly what you are talking about in this video. I think every time is a more common feeling.

This is true. The pursuit of individual authenticity always seems to put first over any collective belonging unless it is a political party or religion. It seems we are becoming less willing to cooperate and compromise. Each person has their own truths instead of relying on a larger narrative framework like a religion. Our modern society tends to reward being distinct especially on the internet. The meta has changed. Being a part of a hallucinating group is not desirable to me.

@@jamm_affinity I think it really depends on what aspects you wanna be individual in. For example, taste in music. Be as individual as you want, i encourage it. But that still has to go along with a mindset that helps with working together instrad of against each other.

Durkheim's concept of anomie is essentially what everyone is complaining about. It's not easy to stop something from happening that has been politicized by divergent domestic & global interests.

I think you probably know more about Durkheim than me, lol. I had to study his concepts for uni a few years ago but i instantly thought about his segmented/modern societies.

We are now in a 100% individualistic society... We do not need anyone to survive and get our personals needs met... This was never used to be the case before. People were interdependent and they knew that social isolation would result in a painful life (even death possibly)... Nowadays social isolation means peace of mind and not a bad thing since we do not depend on anyone
@nathanricetalks16 күн бұрын
Well, i don't fully agree. Just because we are able to survive being isolated, i don't think it's suddenly healthy for us. The human being is still a social creature, i don't think we evolve that fast. It's nice to have a choice between joining groups and being on our own, tho.
