I'm studying this book where he breaks down anatomy into simple shapes and rly go into details with every part. I had no problem with the perspective and form since it was the first thing I invested my time learning but the part I was struggling most was how to actually pose the mannequin and apply all the simplified muscles because they always end up being stiff. This video rly rly rly made some things clear for me! I can't believe I get to see this for free😭 thanks!

Hope you do well on your art journey, and hey this doesn't even have to deal with art in the first place with that advice, it could be any hobby man you are the one that's stopping you doing anything that seems impossible. When he says "remember, when you tilt a form you create a vanishing point that's not on the horizon line." The boxes reference is helpful when you tried to draw building or environment. But when it comes to drawing human, monsters, or animals, the problem would be how to keep the form consistent from the perspective angle.

Hmm, so I understand perspective, and (I think) I understand anatomy, but there's a disconnect when I try to put things together. For example, when you drew the human forms at around 8:00, were you consciously thinking about horizon lines and vanishing points? Did you just estimate the convergences?

This has more to do with 3D-Modelling, why not use 3-D software - you don`t have to know all this to be a excellent artist, Kim Jung Gi has drawn more than read about those tings - the main thing is to just draw as many as you can - as i said this approaches here in this video are more useful for 3D-Software-Users :)

Sorry james, but i think you may have slightly misunderstood what a minor axis is? The minor axis is not a central throughline that moves perpendicular to the face of the ellipse, it is actually the shortest diameter of the ellipse. If you consider your drawings of 3D space to be 2D images, yes, your orange line does line up with the minor axis, and this is why i think you might not have misunderstood this, but if that is the case, the way you represented it could mislead viewers. Though, i do understand that your representation of the idea works better in the context of an art tutorial dealing with concepts like the ones in this video in short; Yes, your orange throughlines are in LINE with the minor axis in 2D space, but they do not accurately represent what the minor axis actually is. Other than that, amazing tutorial mate, it really helped me understand some of this stuff since ive been lacking in it for a while, so thanks!
@moderndayjames
@moderndayjames 4 жыл бұрын
You're right that the minor axis is the shortest diameter of the ellipse but the reason why that's a useful tool in art is solely because it lines up with the length of a cylinder. Otherwise, the minor axis would be of no use to us. What I've done here is modified the cylinders while maintaining the same minor axis. I can see how that would lead to some confusion but I think since we only use the minor axis in art (not in math class) for that reason it's relatively synonymous. Thanks for your feedback!
