Im a small market farmer growing greens ans teas. Definitely trying ti wxpamd to more medicinal teas so here i am. The work us garders do is overlooked. Just promoting this culture is doing God's work! I hope everyone has a great day, may production be right around the corner

I'm a huge fan already. Cynthia's garden is my garden goal. She's very knowledgeable and does a great job explaining all things garden related. I've been wanting to know what to do with all my herbs for tea and this video was perfect!

Take some cuttings in the fall and root them inside on a window sill. You can take more cuttings and root them (or use fresh) through the winter and then plant it out in the spring.

I am new here. I love my herbs. It took me 3 years to get Lavender to grow. I love my Mint teas. Each year I grow Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Orange Mint, and Chocolate Mint. Now you have me curious about Apple Mint. I also grow Lemongrass, Basil, Thyme, Catnip, Rosemary, etc. I tried Chamomile but got very little. I grow my in pots except the regular Mint.

What do you do with all your mint? Do you dry it? Thanks so much for sharing! Are you in Utah? Seems like herbs do well here.

@ModernGardener I live in PA. I make a lot of fresh Mint teas, and when the weather starts to get colder, I dry it so I can use it during the winter months. I grow them in small pots except the regular mint, so I really do not get a lot. Funny everyone told me the Mint would take, but it hasn't.

Beautiful garden. I have a few of these scattered around my food forest style garden, but I'll have to add a couple more after watching this! Lemon Verbena smells amazing. I haven't even tried it in tea yet - just rubbing the leaves is an experience. 😂

Mint comes in so many flavors! I just got ginger mint and basil mint. I’ve seen pear, banana, grapefruit, and apple mint too. And I am so glad that it’s a perennial plant. I’m also trying out the oyster leaf plant and fish mint (which isn’t a true mint).

Its so lovely because it’s so good fresh, dried, in a salad dressing or marinade, but wait- fish mint?🤯 what’s it like? Ginger mint sounds amazing.

@@ModernGardener Lavender, rosemary, bee balm, spicebush, mint, a citrusy mint, and stevia! I saw lemongrass at the nursery, but the plants were all so weak that I didn’t buy one. I meant to check back again sometime, but nurseries in the spring are too crazy.

Spitting out the bitter was so real. Loved it. Do you have advice for a stomach that gets aches from too much warm tea? I like mild flovors and must drink a lot of hot tea for my asthma & lung issues, but then I have to take a day off from the mild pain in my stomach. Thank you. Happy New Year.

Hi FranLu! Thanks for reaching out. I really like growing lemon grass and soaking it in hot water I warm on the stove, then I’ll stain it into a pitcher and drink that cold from the fridge, or room temperature. I’ll do the same thing with my mints and other herbal teas. I also like making my own herbal mixes! And then also drink them cold or at room temp. Also, try just soaking the herbs in room temperature water for a whole day, rather than steeping them in hot, hot water. With some herbs, a room temperature soak taste different then when they’re steeped in hot water. I wonder if that will help your stomach. Are you also using good, purified water? Hope this helps!

I just found this video. I have lemon balm growing in my herb garden. Should it taste like furniture polish?🤔 If so I'm thinking I need to get it gone because that is a flavor I don't want to have to get used to.

@ModernGardener - Cynthia, when you mentioned about lemongrass, you said that you would cook up a pot and then freeze it? What do you mean cook up a pot of this?

From the base of the plant, use sharp scissors to cut a bunch or handful of shoots off and brew them in a pot of simmering water for about 10 minutes. Let it cool. You can bottle, label, and freeze it! Just make sure your leaving a generous amount of room at the top of the jar so when it expands when it freezes it wont burst the jar. That way you can enjoy lemongrass tea during the colder winter months. When I drink lemongrass tea in the evening it tends to have a very calming relaxing effect. Hope this helps!

We are officially friends now, and I've only known you for 4mins and 47 seconds lol 😆, quick question could you explain if you wash/rinse your herbs before drying.. or using fresh. I have a hard time believing there are no tiny bugs, or whatever on them. Your thoughts please? Thanks Bud!

Aww thanks! A big ‘ol bushel of lemon balm; you gotta just rub your whole face in it! So it depends- my lemon balm, mints, tulsi basils, lemon grass, lemon verbena, any leafy green herb like that, I’ll give it a quick rinse and gently shake them off before I lay em out to dry (like on dish towel on the counter-it’s dry here in Utah) after they dry I’ll pick them from the stems. But my lavender and chamomile I won’t rinse but just dry directly after picking. I don’t ever seem to have bugs in them, (even tiny bugs) so it’s not a problem for me. I think if there were any bugs they’d probably leave after it starts to dry too, because they’d prefer a live plant. Im sure you could rinse the flowers, and they’d do fine drying, but I never have. Hope that helps 🍃

Also! A lot of my tea /herbs are not near a curb where say someone’s dog on a walk might pee on, they’re tucked away in various places in my garden without lots of foot traffic, dust, that sorta thing, BUT if I was harvesting some from an area where they’re more exposed I’d definitely be washing them off more.

It sounds to me that You actually say “erb” instead of pronouncing the “h” in front of the full word of “herb” , why is that ? Is it just an American way of lazy speech ? I am NOT American , so , I do NOT know how You People speak your American Language , I can only listen to it and it often sounds funny ,lol ! I am Not being nasty about it , just not used to it !
