in today's video we're going to be taking a look at the media's mistreatment of young women, from marilyn monroe to britney spears to megan fox. this form of harassment under the guise of "journalism" has been happening for decades, with terrible repercussions each time, and yet it continues to be commonplace today with social media. why are we continuing to repeat this cycle of misogyny?

Yeah, that was cringeworthy at best. Craig Ferguson has had his own problems, which probably accounts for his recognising someone else's struggle. He can be crass and ogle women with the worst of them, but I feel like even though he often makes me uncomfortable with that, he was in the vanguard of comedy shows capable of taking a step back and taking things seriously and not turning eveything into a joke. I think his audiences eventually realised that, but at that point it was probably utterly hardwired in people that everything a late show host says is a joke and everything is fair play for a joke.

I remember that incident he was talking about very vividly. Britney was walking down the street with her baby (I think it was Jaden), and paparazzi were in her face. She kept trying to just get by and she tripped. Thankfully she caught herself because they just took pictures and no one tried to at least grab the baby. When she finally made it to the car, she was hugging him and sobbing because it's terrifying to have thosr kinds of close calls. Britney has been through so much and half of it could have been prevented if someone had loved the person more than the pop star.

Nvm the question how it's an artists Business to raise your Kid, to Put the responsibility on a Teenager? Which Teenager wouldnt say yes to her Baby on more time outfits and looking more "mature". It's not like her picture was gonna be seen on the show." Though being in elementary school at the time, I also didn't realize how icky it was that she was a minor when the picture was taken (probably because I was a little kid and thought of teenagers as basically being adults. Though I don't know how actual adults didn't realize how messed up it was.). I still don't think it was right for my mom to use it to "prove" that Miley was "bad" though. Heck, even at the present time, she would be a scandalous woman in many countries. It's not healthy to perceive everyone who doesn't agree with you as jealousy. Superiority complex is a real thing and it's spreading massively in USA.

Wrong. I'm so tired of "iT's jeAlouSY" excuse to avoid difficult subjects. Maybe you're the type of person who is fueled only by jealousy in life, but it may surprise you that most people aren't. Marilyn was not considered unanimously most beautiful at the time, but she was certainly the most sexualised. Other incredibly beautiful women, also suggested "the world's most beautiful", shared the limelight with her but were not subjected to the same level of bashing as Marilyn.

This may be problematic but the reason why megan fox is getting praised now is because the media only accepts women when they’re “non threatening” when women in Hollywood get in their 30s that’s when they start getting respected because they’re considered “old” so she’s no longer a threat now. Another example is Madison beer, people are so vocal about the mistreatment of Megan Fox just to do the same to Madison beer because people are projecting their insecurities on to her, because of how she looks and they are threatened by her looks. In 10 years, when she’s in her 30s watch everyone start apologizing to her.

The issue is why was a Disney live action movie actress recast as a different race in the first place? Would it be ok if The Princess and the Frog was recasted as a different race. I refuse to go see the movie, not because she is black. I refuse to go see movies that are purposely recasting races to be PC or include all or are stuck in "dumb woman" roles. Even if the movie was great, all I think about is how EVERYTHING was about her being black. It was never about the music (which the original music was awesome), set, story line, etc. I am tired of the race card being played in media to keep pinning us against each other or movies like this upcoming Barbie one that put women only in this "materialistic" box. All interviews I have seen have been about a high heel shot. Wow! Another show about women being only their fashion, hair, and makeup choice. Last woman movie I enjoyed was Black Widow. These girls kicked butt and even mocked the landing pose thing. So many of us don't care about fashion, body size or color, or gender even. Some of us want an intellectual movie, a musical, a comedy,, an awesome storyline, cast that get along and play well off each other.

If we want race to stop being an issue, stop basing things off race. Just promote it as a great movie. Then, if the black culture wants to say, "This is our Little Mermaid." Let them. On a personal level, people can decide what matters to them. I am tired of media and advertising still playing the race card all the time. Just promote people being people. That is all I meant by it. There is no judgment against race by me. I am judging advertising companies not seeing people for more than just their skin color.

The issue was not the fact she was black, not once. That’s a lie propagated by the media and the studio because people had voiced their issues with the SCRIPT AND THE STORY of the film very early on. It became obvious over time the film would flop so the race narrative was introduced and became the leading “cause” for the flop, even though it had little to nothing to do with it. And also, have a look at the CHINESE promo poster for the film where Disney did all in their power to cover up the fact that the actress they cast is black. You can’t see she is in that promo poster for the movie… doesn’t it make you wonder why? The company themselves covered up the fact that their work casting choice would not be well received with the Chinese government or audiences. Aka they were very well aware of it, but chose to do it because of ‘the message’. Creative freedom is one thing, but the little mermaid ARIEL, which is the base of the story written H.C. Andersson is described by the writer white with bright red hair. And since the story takes places in Denmark around the 1700s is safe assume that most people didn’t even know black people existed let alone ever SAW one

I watched “Gentlemen Prefer Blonds” recently and, I’m slightly ashamed to say, was SHOCKED at Marilyn’s talent. Damn that woman could act! I was especially surprised at her comedic timing, which I thought rivaled the best of em (Lucile Ball, Fran D.). It’s heartbreaking she’s mostly remembered for her looks, cause she was 100% a triple threat. Also Monica Lewinsky (I’m pretty dyslexic, I hope I spelled that right) has my UNDYING admiration and respect, cause that woman survived HELL and came out with a badass sense of humor and her empathy intact. Surviving would’ve been enough, but she went above and beyond

You are so right about Marilyn. She was crazy serious about her acting, she would arrive on set first and stay the longest, she would spend hours in front of a mirror perfecting her facial expressions, she would have anxiety attacks before filming because she was putting herself under so much pressure to do her best.... yet people still think she relied solely on her looks. You should check out Niagara or Don't Bother To Knock. Both movies are thrillers and show that she not only had a talent for comedy, but could also play the femme fatale!

Her life story breaks my heart. They took away her childhood and made her think she was ugly and took away her agency. What really freaks me out the most is the publicity teams. They're professionals who FULLY curate the image of the person. They managed to write the narrative that he is just a poor boy who keeps getting screwed over by these nasty women! Meanwhile, Britney's team was fully on board with the Britney is crazy narrative because it was getting her more press. They were overworking her when she was obviously unwell. Janet's team could have prevented that issue, but they let it happen because they thought it would generate more buzz (def a swing and a miss on their part). The publicists know what is going to get the media in a tizzy, and they put women in these positions even if it comes at a massive cost to their health or career.

One of the things I find ironic is that these women weren't just mistreated by men and the industry but also by other women. Monroe, Britney, Miley, Taylor and many others got slut shamed constantly by other women, Kim Kardashian leaked an edited video of Taylor and Kanye's call that made Tay disappear from the media for a year. Not just that, Kim was okay with her husband showing a naked Taylor lookalike in his music video and him chanting 'I made that B famous' in his concerts. Yael, ex wife of Scooter Braun, defended her husband when he sold Taylor's masters without her knowledge. Look how Amy Poehlar and Tina Fey made misogynistic comment about Taylor. I saw lots of women complain that Taylor dates a lot but those same woman see Leonardo Dicaprio as a heartthrob even with his questionable love life. Crissy Teigan slut shamed Courtney Strodden on Twitter, even told them to kill themselves. Teigan apologized after all these years only because she was called out. I can go on about it but my point is these women were also the victims of 'internalized misogyny' amongst other things. That's even sadder.

This is so true. Growing up I remembered the media filling you the idea that "women are each other's enemies" and hearing ladies badmouthing others, which in retrospective was ridiculous, now that I've grown seeing that kind of behavior nowadays is really upsetting 😕

Adding to this, this sense of competition that society created on women is also really damaging, I know I know man also "compete" with each other but the motives for this "competition" I've seen on both sides leave me speechless

The media has been portraying women as villains for years, and it’s sickening. Almost all of these women were so innocent, and they were/are constantly facing mistreatment. I’m praying our children get to grow up with healthy media.

Mariah in that interview is legendary. So polite, but so not giving in to Rosie's misogyny. She just said Britney was a nice girl , which is demonstrably true - she is a very sweet person. People always call Mariah a diva and a bitch and whatnot, but she was very compassionate in that moment and did what I would probably do if I were in a situation where there would be serious consequences to fully calling out the comments. Classy

Yep. Mariah is a diva, we know that. But we can't take out her respect when another woman is involve. Everyone laughs at her "I don't know her" meme, but I'd rather prefer her ignoring the competition than falling in the "i would tarnish every women/men that MAY represents an obstacle in my path" that the media and society loves so much. If we don't have good things to say about the other, silence should be our answer and our diva knows it the best 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mariah Carey is a legend. Of course she is sticking up for Britney Spears after Rosie O Donnell came at Britney. Mariah is not a diva to me. I dont like that why call her awful names like this. She support her during now Britney is a free woman.

Britney was an absolute angel throughout her whole career and she really didn't have to be. Everybody treated her like shit and she would sit back, smile and take it with a polite response to try and give them the hint and they just wouldn't stop.

he is a gem and the only decent talk show host. Letterman is the worst. just think of how many times he verbally abused his GUESTS, and treated them like he was bored, annoyed, or just plain not interested when they were the reason people were watching his show, not the other way around. His abuse of his female guests was disgusting, and he is just the tip of the iceberg.
