Car batteries . . . going to have to bring the battery into the house in the winter to keep battery warm like my Dad's Dad had to do in the old days. It's a hassle, but it really works. My Dad used to talk about that a lot.

Female hygiene products, diapers, wipes and formula, child otc medications will be important. Nobody mentions pyridium, but if we are in a bad situation where hygiene is compromised, pyridium will be good to have in order to provide comfort from UTIs in women and girls. Yeast infections will also be a problem.

If i have electricity but need water, my ac produces about 10 gallons a day. This has to be treated because it may be a source of legionaires disease and other microorganisms, but when treated, is a good resource.

During a long outage I learned right away to cook while the sun is out. Trying to do anything but heat up a can of soup is a real pain by the light of a lantern. Do as much as you can when the sun is out. Maybe have your big meal at noon.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. When Covid hit I stopped at the grocery store because I needed a few things like bread. I got in there and it was packed with frantic people. I was not expecting that at all. One guy in the produce department filled his cart with all of the blueberries. They actually had 3 carts filled with various items. As I walked through the store to get the bread, the shelves were completely empty except for one or two loaves. One of those loaves was the bread I came for. The meats were completely gone except for some hamburger patties. I got in a very long line and waited to check out my bread and yogurt that I came for. Many carts were filled with medications. That was really an eye-opening experience. You are right. Prepare now or never.

We did civil war reenactments as Blacksmiths, LOL. All Our Gear from that is def SHTF stuff and I kept it all. I even have about four canvas tents and all our hiking gear, wood stoves and lanterns the run on simple fuels.

Use your insurances, right quick and get on top of stuff before it gets bad. Eyeglasses/contacts up to date. Dental all squared away, Hearing checked. Dr's checkups done. In another plandemic all those services are slow walked to "those that need it it the most.…" Hope all your viewers are just putting frills on the plans stuff put back….great vid MR.

Remember when the couf-couf19 hit, some big stores blocked isles with tape that contained "Nonessential" items? For some reason, I thought that was ridiculous.

I remember as a kid in the mid-1970s, sitting in the car in line at the gas station for literally 2 hours, due to the gasoline shortages. It’s one of the reasons I’ve always resonated with the advice to keep your gas tank as full as possible. With the political situation these days, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that again before November. Also when I was a kid, just after my parents divorce and my mom was always struggling financially, I found her sitting on the floor sobbing because payday was a week away & we’d run out of toilet paper. My grandma rescued us that time, but my mom never had less than 20 rolls of toilet paper in the house after that. Talk about “generational trauma”, all the way into middle age I’ve always kept 30 or 40 rolls in the house, despite my kids teasing me about it. When 2020 hit and the shelves were completely bare of toilet paper, the one store in my tiny town started only selling 2 rolls at a time, and carding people buying toilet paper for out-of-town addresses, because people from 40 and 50 miles away were coming in to buy it all up! But due to my experience, the first toilet paper I bought in 2020 was in October - because I had enough put back when the pandemic hit not to need to buy any for 8+ months. Your mention of lights reminded me that I should get some more lamp oil. For years now I’ve picked up old-fashioned oil lamps at yard sales & flea markets, and now have about a dozen. And candles! My husband (jokingly) forbade me from buying any more candle sconces after counting 27 in the house. But I definitely need more lamp oil. Luckily it’s usually available at Hobby Lobby and even Amazon. At least for the moment!

Yours is the best list I have heard. In 2020 suddenly there were no canning jars or lids anywhere. I had jars and vegetables to can so I started reusing my good lids. Hey, nobody got sick!

There are a lot of things that have the potential to hurt you. Think about creating a "strong room" in some place in your house (if that's where you are likely to be) .. there are many things you can do to create a safe space. One thing is to stack books and other things inside of windows .. something that might absorb a stray bullet. Also think about getting some cattle panels and cut them to fit over your windows so it limits access. Get a good "catch'em alive" trap and learn how to use it. It will work while you are sleeping. If you are going to grow something .. grow sweet potatoes, winter squash, turnips, etc. Tomatoes won't last long. At this time .. if you are living in the city .. stay where you are and find ways to strengthen your position. If you are leaving the city .. leave your city mind there too!

I’ve put aside 10lb. Of iodized salt as a backup for hot weather or SHF, as you need water but you must also have salt.

The basic hygiene products are so often overlooked. 100 bucks at Sam’s club is almost all it takes to cover basic soap, toothpaste, deodorant, paper products, dish liquid for a long time.

Saying that during The Great Depression that wild game availability declined substantially due to hunting pressure from folk trying to put food on the table. I recommended junk yard parts to those who couldn’t get new car parts back in 2020. Biggest problem here was dairy, baking aisle items and sanitizing/PPE items. Gas sure was cheap! If only we could keep that part…thanks, MR!

This is such a good look at what's needed by the modern person. Luckily, we live on the edge of modernity and much more like the old folks you talk about in your stories. There's a freedom in needing much less modern comfort and appliances and knowing it will make not much difference if it all goes anyway. Another thing no one else talks about is death. Be ready for dying. We're all headed that way and all this stuff about survival makes a lot of people really grasp in an unhealthy way - beyond being prepared for hard times or natural disaster - grasping to living as if preparing will forestall death like a shield. Be ready for someone to get sick or be injured or waste away in the heat or succumb to the cold. That fear of death is how 2020 even happened and how we lost privacy in 2001. People afraid of dying just made themselves sponges for any old propaganda (on both sides) wanting to believe in something to save them. Maybe you have faith and maybe you just have common sense, but either one is enough. Someone needs to talk about being ready for dying because it's the fear of it that is ruining this world. The politics, corporate brain-washing, everything is just taking advantage of that one thing - and getting away with it.

Bought some cheap solar lights from The Dollar Tree, we tested them to make sure they all worked and stored them away for later if needed. I also have an emergency hand crank radio that has a couple of really bright LED lights on it. We have a couple of battery run head lamps in case we need our hands free.

During the aftermath of Hurricane Maria 🌀 you couldn't find a chainsaw chain if your life depended on it, gas lines were 6 hours long,and supermarkets had nothing, nobody had batteries or mini propane cylinders, banks, supermarkets, gas stations were all closed for the first month of the event, it was bad.

2020 my little resort town had the same thing happen. People from Boise drive 100 miles to us to strip our stores. Canning jars are big sellers at yard sales and thrift stores. We can find them now in 24 unlike 21,22,23 but new ones are almost double the cost now. My next project is to get some concrete blocks so I can make a rocket stove.

My wife witnessed several local grocery stores get cleaned out of stock within 24 hours back in the 1967 winter storms. It is a false sense of security to think that the grocery stores will have products available in crazy times. In fact, those locations will likely be the deadliest places to be near. If food becomes an issue, one of the most important tools to have besides self-defense related, will be good, soild hand shovels....

Since 1971 when I started tracking shortages, I have noticed that with any emergency (earthquakes, tornados, flood, haz-mat incidents, winter storms etc.) the first thing that disappeared was TP. Hands down always TP. followed by food items; specifically milk, then meat, then fresh fruit, then frozen foods. After food, goes fuel. Pre 2000 it was primarily gasoline. After diesel pickups became so popular, diesel fuel started being a major target.

Good stuff, thanks Modern. Here in Charleston, when we get hurricanes, gasoline is the first thing to run out, followed by bottled water. Then it’s kind of random… sometimes have seen the alcohol aisles WIPED out. ATMs run out of cash prior to the storm too (sometimes)

Addressing fuel specifically, don't bother. Fuel because of processing is difficult to store for long periods of time, 6 months + most fuels are losing their "goody". Prepare yourself mentally and physically for manual tools, remembering that many of these tools have a learning curve.

In that B-Movie I mentioned before called "Panic in the year zero" the main character goes to a small town where he thinks no one has heard about the nuke attack. He gets the hardware store and grocery store owners out of bed because he knows he has to act fast before the mobs hit the stores. One fuel run we had was in around 2010 or so and the local tv station caused it. There was a hurricane and they had a commercial that basically said "Will the hurricane cause a gas shortage in our area? Find out at 5!" But it panicked people and there was a big run and within two days all the stations were dry.

Backups for backups and alternative substitutes are some things I work on. Before I got a water filter, I bought water by the gallon and filled them with tap water... There's a lot to consider! Thanks MR👍

Since 2012 I'd been getting concerned. And started collecting nonperishables like soap, shampoo and other supplies. When I moved to my current place my son railed on me saying I was hording. I said I'm not I just got the things on sale and I was using it. 'Round came the panic of 2020.... 'nough said. He's stocking up now.

We have a tote of 1lb cylinders, but they aren't cost-effective for our purposes, especially since the price jump.

A run on toilet paper and being wiped out can be its own emergency. 😂😂😂. Seriously when using propane order the O rings that are for the end of the piece that goes into the tank. They are special O rings. Do not use any old O ring you can make fit.

4patriots has a new solar a/c. I'm a caregiver, I'm always saving extra stuff. Made my first tincture, mullen, going to dry leaves next ,wild in backyard first year. Just switched out canned stuff, got old. Rebuilding camp stuff hubby disappeared it all. Emptied a 30 gallon Faraday can....violated.

One thing many people don’t think enough about is birth control. While I personally never refer to any unplanned child as a mistake or accident (they are surprises) you want to careful to have those when you are “ready”.

I remember the great toilet paper apocalypse of 2020 🧻🧻🧻🧻 when the normies were buying up cases of toilet paper. I thought to myself that would make a great basic barter item so I keep a few dollar store packs of toilet paper with some other basic items that I use on a regular basis that are also good for barter.
