@@DwraichAfter Nov 2015, 500 and 1000 denominations were demonitized. New set of 500 denominations were released and 2000 denomination was introduced. And last year september even 2000 denomination was removed from circulation, equivalent to demonitization 2.0. Today highest denomination is 500. Next year we will be introducing a new law which will ban holding cash more than 500k (or 5 lakh) i.e. ALL money more than 5 lakh must be deposited in bank. If you hold cash more than 5 lakh, you can face charges.

No, Re 2000 notes have not been demonetised, these can still be deposited at 19 RBI offices.

You have a wrong information. The 1000 rupees notes have been permanently stopped. Period given for exchange of notes was 51 days. The major problem was issue of new currency notes of 2000 denomination. Which is also discontinued now. The highest denomination available now is 500😮 only.

Why some people are so salty here?!! Switching to a cashless economy has its perks, dear's. Less cash floating around means less chance for dodgy dealings and tax dodgers. Before that pakistan has to create a very very big on line transaction infrastructure .pakistan banks are still using very old banking software including ATMs also. Mass people need to be educated how to use online technology. Pakistan Rurals are very very uneducated its a long way to implement.

The answer is not eliminating the 5000 and 1000 notes and going digital because that is not feasible in Pakistan. But changing them every couple of years and over certain amount to show the money trail.
